First Gear theme at Flatline
QIC: Van Gogh
Date: 08/29/2017
PAX: Roosevelt, Root Canal, Thistle, Lite Brite (WD), Beverly, Cherry Pie, Zima, Van Gogh (WB)
Spicoli sought out a substi-Q yesterday, which went unseen by YHC. Luckily, Beverly reached out directly and remembered my offer to switch with him a few weeks back when Q assignments were made… Happy to step up! But I’m not sure if this means I’m still on the hook for November? Anyway, knowing how most PAX are prepping for BRR right now, YHC thought it best to try and appeal with an offer of a #FirstGear themed beatdown, #Flatline style! It sounded terrible on paper, and it was indeed pretty terrible… which made YHC happy!

CoT
- YHC took us out lifting up Houston, praying that the nation comes together and that we’re all given generous hearts to donate and support those in need down there.
NMM
- Workout stats for 7 rounds:
- 168 Merkins
- 84 cinder block curls
- 84 squats (plus whatever OYO, ~30)
- 3.1 miles total, 435ft climb
- ~.42 miles backwards uphill
- 252 ab exercises
- It seemed more cars went down Shallowford today than 1st! Never in my life have I seen a car use that road… #Cobains for putting the PAX in a somewhat precarious situation, but #TClaps to everyone for being alert and keeping an eye out.
- We launched a full 15 seconds late in honor of @Spicoli, but YHC couldn’t show up after the bell tolled (2 minutes early was as close as I was willing to cut it). YHC was also rocking a headband in his honor as well (Tough Mudder, not limited edition / homemade F3)!
- @Beverly was way out front this morning, the pain stations didn’t slow him down one bit! Whoever says all #FastHoles have #SoccerArms, clearly hasn’t worked out with him!
- @Roosevelt and @RootCanal paired up and moving the whole time, great work men!
- @Zima was busting my chops asking where the warmup was as we ran out of the parking lot, but it’s #Flatline!!! So our “warmup” was moseying to Shady Lane and OYO Squats after… it works!
- @CherryPie was in beast mode as usual, maintaining perfect Ski Jump form for all his squats! He also held those hands high for all Flutter Kicks! But he didn’t seem to be a big fan of the theme…?
- @Thistle and @LiteBrite (modifying curls to overhead press due to a bicep injury – #Tclaps for the more difficult mod!) were chomping at YHC’s heels pushing me to keep going faster the entire time. I want to be like them when I grow up… #Respect!
- @RootCanal may have soiled his shorts during American Hammers, making all kinds of noise, for at least four 4 counts during cadence… very impressive!
- Some debate over whether or not running backwards counts for negative mileage?
- YHC realized after the fact, that a #FirstGear themed #Flatline beatdown is very similar to a hilly #WIB! #BeforeFlatlineWasFlatline
Thanks for the keys, @Beverly and opportunity to lead such men! Until next time… SYITG, VG

Cherry Pie
That stunk…and I’m not talking about the barrage Root Canal let off in my right ear midway through American Hammers.
Well done Van Gogh. Stout beatdown!
Thistle
As always for a Van Gogh beatdown, I hated it. So I guess that makes VG happy. Organized and complete – good job. As a soccer guy, I’m getting self-conscious of my arms. Just because the tattoo guy said he couldn’t write small enough to get “Mother” on my bicep…
Justin Bailey
Nice job, @Van Don’t Stop, and thanks for filling in. By the way, you’re off the hook for November – Roosevelt is taking your spot.
YHC thought this workout was a bit like Gun N Run given that we covered 5 kilometers and my arms are sore this AM. Just hoping @Zima will stop calling me a sandbagger now.
Zima
I certainly hope you weren’t sandbagging yesterday Beverly! You left the rest of us in the dust right from the opening bell. If not for the circuitous (death) route that Van Gogh made us run, the rest of the PAX would never have seen you. And if that was your normal sandbagging, I’d hate to see what a full speed workout looks like. Certainly a man among boys out there. Point proven. You are better than the rest of us unwashed masses.
Thistle, let’s work on your counting skills past the number 3 before we start focusing on those puny little arms. Even my toddlers can get to 10 (well … sometimes).
Van Gogh, nice WIB workout, except for the fact that you paid that dude in the red SUV to drive laps on Shallowford as we were backpedaling up it. Not the safest beatdown ever. At least Beverly was so far ahead, he served as the crash test dummy for the group.
Thistle
How does Beverly run so fast and his hair never is out of place? #brylcreem You’ll have to look it up.
