Rocks + Ropes = COMBS
QIC: Rust Bucket
Date: 11/08/2017
PAX: Zima, Spamalot, Van Gogh, Huckleberry, Bunyon, Fingers, Plunger, Touch-Me-Not, Splash, Ink Spot, Rust Bucket
Splash’s pre-blast built the suspense as to whether or not YHC’s ankle was sufficiently healed to Q this morning’s workout. 10 PAX showed up to see and, sure enough, I was there and ready to go.
The workout was approximately as follows:
Warm-o-Rama:
SSH, IST, Sun Gods forward/reverse, Whirly with a Clap, Merkins and, by request, a single Burpee.
The Thang:
- YHC led an Indian run around the parking lot and ended up at the rock pile. PAX were instructed to select a medium sized rock for the morning’s activities. Zima and Van Gogh, of course, chose a medium sized boulder.
- Mosey back to the parking lot, John Cusak style, to discover a bag of ropes waiting for us. So, we partnered up and each PAX performed 25 repetitions of the following exercises with their rocks:
- Curls
- Overhead Press
- Merkins
- Bent over Rows
- Skull Crushers
- After each exercise, PAX perform Partner Pulls with the ropes around their waists to the end of the parking lot, flap-jack and return to complete the next exercise.
- Repeat next set with no breaks between exercises.
- With time running out, we returned rocks to the pile, John Cusak style, and then moseyed back to the parking lot for Mary.
Mary:
- Ring of Fire
- Protractor
Done.
Announcements:
- See Pony Express / Twitter for opportunity to help park cars at a run / walk this weekend in downtown W-S. You get a free t-shirt. And you get to work with a vest and wand! Beatdown starts at 6:30… again, check Twitter for details.
- For those not attending the downtown event on Saturday, there will be a convergence at Purgatory. Same time and place as usual, 7:00am / Speas Elementary School. This means no Dawg Pound or Impossible Situation.
- 19th is a beer run. Watch Twitter or contact Zima for details.
- Shmedfest is August 25th, 2018 and will be held at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds here in Winston-Salem. Just a guess but I think Plunger will have more details as the event gets closer. But never too soon to add it to your 2018 list of “must attend” events!
Prayer Requests:
YHC took us out with words of prayer from the hearts of all PAX. Prayers for untimely deaths of friends and loved ones. Bunyon’s sister in New Jersey and her battle with cancer. Prayers, both spoken and unspoken that live in the hearts of all of us.
NMM:
- Great to see Bunyon working hard this morning, don’t get to see him often enough.
- Touch-Me-Not seems to be a regular at Mayhem and always works hard. Consistent work pays dividends, keep after it, Brother!
- Winter weather is approaching and Spamalot was prepared… hat, gloves, sweatshirt, and tights under his shorts. Zima, on the other hand, showed up in his customary shorts and sleeveless t-shirt.
- Huckleberry was really getting after it this morning, getting faster, and stronger. Great work, Brother!
- Plunger and Splash proved to be a dynamite team. Each pushing the other. These guys showed what it means to look after each other and draw out the best the other has to offer.
- Always a pleasure to work out with Van Gogh. The guy never gives up on anything or anyone. Always circles back to make sure the 6 doesn’t finish alone and does it in an encouraging fashion. #HIM
- Love the way Fingers just puts his head down and keeps on going. No quit in that man!
Thanks for the keys, Splash!
Enjoyed it!

Van Gogh
Loved the rope work, RB! I like how all the PAX questioned your sanity when you said we were running to the end of the parking lot… Then we remembered who the Q was and did it.
Fingers
thanks for the workout, @RustBucket! good mix of running & exercises; good to partner with @Huckleberry; i had to up my game significantly to keep up; thanks for the push!
Spamalot
The look in RB’s eyes when he said that there were other ways to raise the heartbeat other than running was a foreshadowing of the awfulness to come. That was one tough, brutal beatdown!!!
Red Eye
Glad to see RB posting and abusing the pax.
