Thursday night, YHC volunteered at Samaritan Inn, along with Rust Bucket, one of my personal heroes. As YHC was passing the time during my 2am-4am shift as CQ/Fireguard, I saw on my Twitter feed an urgent call for help from Splash: A Pinch-Q was needed to relieve Ripple, whose sore toe would render him less than 100% for his scheduled VQ on Saturday morning. Feeling energetic, at least at that moment, YHC raised his hand.
My energy level and creativity were greatly diminished the next day as a result of my getting less than 3 hours of sleep Thursday night, and I began to regret having stepped up to Q on Saturday. Spamalot tweeted a suggestion that I reprise my rock-toting beatdown from my Q at Mayhem on Wednesday. YHC thought Spamalot was kidding, but he wasn’t. The more YHC thought about it, the more I decided that Spamalot was on to something. Given that Speas Elementary has a renowned pile of rocks, it would relieve me of having to plan another workout. VOILA!!
WARMARAMA – A typical lineup of SSHs, ISTs, Seal Claps, hamstring stretches, Whirly’s with a social disease (when will he see a doctor and get rid of it?), and Abe Vigodas. After completing our warmups, the PAX moseyed to the rockpile in back of Speas Elementary, where the rocks and a sack of sandbags were waiting.
THE THANG – As I had done at Meadowlark on Wednesday, YHC pre-positioned 5 lights, each approximately 20-25 yards apart, running along the driveway on the right side of the school. The PAX were instructed to carefully select a rock from the pile and place it inside a sandbag, which could be utilized to provide alternate ways of gripping and lifting the rock. The following routine occurred:
Starting at the first light, each PAX performs 25 reps of a listed leg exercise. After completing the 25 reps of the leg exercise, each PAX runs (while carrying his rock) to the second light and performs 10 reps of a listed chest/arm/shoulder exercise. Upon completion, each PAX runs (still carrying his rock) to the third light and performs 10 more reps of the same chest/arm/shoulder exercise. Upon completion, each PAX then runs to the fourth light (still carrying his rock) and performs 10 more reps of the same chest/arm/shoulder exercise. Upon completion, each PAX runs to the fifth light (still carrying his rock) and then gets down and performs 25 reps of a listed abdominal exercise. Upon completion of the 25 reps of the first listed abdominal exercise, each PAX works his way back to the first light (still carrying his rock) in reverse order, stopping at the fourth, third and second lights to perform 10 reps of the same chest/arm/shoulder exercise, resulting in the completion of a total of 60 reps of each chest/arm/shoulder exercise before moving on the next exercise in the list.
Having returned to the first light, REPEATO through the listed leg, chest/arm/shoulder and ab exercises until 0755 hours.
LEG EXERCISES:
- Goblet Squats w/rock
- Monkey Humpers w/o rock
- Calf Raises w/rock
- Alternating Forward Lunges w/rock

(The PAX went through this list twice)

- Rock Swings w/rock (like kettle bell swings)
- Upright Rows w/rock
- Bus Drivers w/rock

AB EXERCISES (rocks optional):

Most of the PAX were at or near the end of these lists when the clock struck 0755. We returned our rocks to the quarry, gathered up the lights and sandbags, and moseyed from the rear of the school back to the front parking lot, arriving there at exactly 0800.
COT:
- Splash asked for prayers for one of his patients who is struggling with Leukemia
- Boomerang took us out with a very moving prayer asking our Lord to continue to shed His Grace and Love, and for each of us to be beacons of His light and hope for others
- PERSONAL COMMENT: YHC cannot overstate how much F3, and the caliber of the PAX whom it is a tremendous blessing and honor for YHC to know, has been a Godsend in my life. I humbly thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for the example that you set for me and the love and friendship that you share.
PLAYLIST — On Wednesday, it was old school Country and Western. This morning, it was Rock n’ Roll from several decades:
- Are You Gonna Go My Way — Lenny Kravitz
- On Hit To the Body – The Rolling Stones
- You’ve Got Another Thing Coming — Judas Priest
- Back in the Saddle — Aerosmith
- Bitch — The Rolling Stones
- Gimme Shelter — The Rolling Stones (SGT Schultz likes the Stones!!)
- Fly Away — Lenny Kravitz
- Looks that Kill — Motley Crue
- Used to Love Her — Guns N’ Roses
- Stacy’s Mom — Fountains of Wayne
- Bodies — The Drowning Pool
- We’re Not Gonna Take It — Twisted Sister
Upon hearing “Stacy’s Mom,” a discussion broke out amongst the PAX regarding how utterly spectacular Rachel Hunter is in that music video. YHC watched it later today, and it is truly something to behold. In addition, the nods to Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher” video and one of the all time great scenes from Fast Times at Ridgemont High are awesome.
Thanks for allowing me to lead.

Regretted my rock choice by 715am.
Solid workout. Shoulders definitely sore.
Thanks for video. Almost made beatdown worth it.
Great 2nd F with Pax this morning.
Spamalot
YHC liked this one even more than Mayhem. First, 15 more minutes of fun. Second, better music selection. Great work by all!

I can’t believe this brutal workout was done again in the same week! And for a longer amount of time!? Kudos to the PAX who did it twice!
