A magnificent 7 PAX posted this morning at Robinhood Village Shopping Center for #WIB.   It was YHC’s fourth Q in a week (and second in 2 days), and I was dragging.  YHC decided to shamelessness poach a #WIB location and scheme from a Drama Queen led Q at #WIB last summer.   Robinhood Village is a great location for #WIB, as it is expansive, well-lit, self-contained and has little vehicle traffic during the peak “in the gloom” hours.

When YHC announced that he was copying DQ’s beatdown from last Summer, I was greeted with derision from the PAX, who told me that someone else had done a similar routine at Robinhood Village just a few weeks ago.  YHC is used to getting no respect (a la Rodney Dangerfield) and being a constant source of amusement for just about any organization to which I have belonged, so I took it in stride.  I am frequently told, “We aren’t laughing with you, we are laughing at you.”   In any case, the workout went like this:

WARMARAMA:

  • SSHs
  • IST’s
  • Seal Claps
  • Whirly’s With a Social Disease
  • Abe Vigodas
  • Standing Hamstring Stretches (L & R)
  • Thurman Munson (catcher’s squat groin stretch

THE THANG:

The outer loop of the Shopping Center parking lot covers approximately 3/8 of a mile.   YHC had delineated seven (7) pain stations throughout the loop.  They were:

  • Jack Reachers
  • Monkey Humpers
  • Round the World Merkins (start with both hands on the curb for slightly elevated Irkins  for the first 5 reps, then rotate 90 degrees for regular Merkins with one hand on the curb and the other on the ground for the next 5 reps, rotate 90 degrees to have both feet on the curb for slight Derkins for the next 5 reps, etc.)
  • Beat Your Boots Squats  (Squatting down low and straight enough to tap the  sides of your shoes –YHC has not so fond memories of doing seemingly endless numbers of these at U.S. Army Airborne School)
  • Mike Tysons (against the wall of the Harris Teeter)
  • Sit-Ups (performed in a grassy island)
  • Alternating forward lunges

During the first lap, the PAX stopped at each pain station and performed 5 repetitions of each exercise.  For each successive lap, 5 repetitions were added at each pain station.  Thus, Lap # 2 had 10 reps at each stop, Lap # 3 had 15 reps, etc.    After an initial explanatory lap, the PAX were released to get after it, each at their own pace.  We quickly separated into two groups, with a lead group of 3 being followed by another group of 4.  YHC was not in the lead group.   I rationalized to myself that it wasn’t the lead group running faster as much as it was the trail group (myself included) taking special care that we performed our exercises more thoroughly, using proper form,  focusing on forced negatives, etc. which held us back.

All PAX completed 5 laps, finishing with a punishing 25 reps at each station during the final lap.   (The 25 reps of Mike Tysons was my personal favorite.)

There was no time left for MARY other than everyone assuming an elbow plank position until the Six arrived at the start point at 0614 real time (The Tower Clock at the Shopping Center was 10 minutes slow — a real mind f_ _ _!)  and holding the plank until 0615.

Despite YHC’s lack of creativity, the PAX seemed to have a good workout and a good time.

COT:

  • Thistle asked for prayers for the daughter and son-in-law of close family friends who are going through a tough divorce.  May the Lord be with them both through this extremely difficult life event and grant His healing, peace and forgiveness among the families involved.
  • As YHC has sadly reported in other AOs where I have posted earlier this week, a very good friend of mine, Patrick Pait, the County Attorney for Robeson County, was tragically killed in a head-on collision Sunday evening when another vehicle drifted across the median into his lane.  He was only 34 years old and was a joy, inspiration and friend to everyone he met.  Such a horrible tragedy.  YHC made a round trip to Lumberton today to attend his funeral.   The service, attended by hundreds of people, was beautiful but heartbreaking.   Godspeed, my friend.   He has prepared a room for you.
  • YHC took us out, thanking our Lord for his many blessings, asking Him to dedicate us as his agents to spread His joy and love in this World, and asking Him to allow us each to be good teammates in the team sport of Life.

It was an Honor to lead such a fine group of men, men who have become my brothers.

Great Q sir. Thanks for your leadership – a good group of men to sweat with this morning. Appreciate the hearts of these men striving to be better men. Quick question though, how big do my arms have to be to wear a #Zima sleeveless shirt? If #Zima continues to work hard he could play on my Arbor Acres co-ed rec soccer team.
