What we saw along the way
QIC: Wobegon
Date: 7-3-2108
PAX: Van Gogh, Mutton, Bam, Turnover, Wobegon
We’ll get to the details of the workout, but I don’t want to burry the lede here. As we ran, did sit-ups and push-ups and generally did voluntarily difficult movements with our bodies we encountered a few things this morning.
- No less than 5 people sleeping in Winston Square Park. Lots to notice, but I was struck by the bags of belongings arranged just so, areas clearly chosen, once couple sleeping close together.
- Later, Van Gogh noticed two runners, one in an F3 shirt as we headed back to our starting point. We broke normal Flatline protocol and stopped to breathe and talk. Babyface (did not retain where he was from) was in town while his young son was having treatment at the hospital. Positive reports from another round of chemo, we hear he enjoyed a hot dog and fries last night.
Its something of a reality check to literally run into people clearly carrying heavy burdens. Not to say that any of the 5 pax this morning don’t have their own to carry, either. Those interaction interjected a little bit more awareness into my day today, something that would not have happened running alone in my neighborhood or sleeping in. For this, I am grateful.
Moving on…
The thang:
It’s Flatline so YHC recalls we eschew warmups for movement. So let’s do this.
- Mosey the long way through downtown to Winston Square Park. (Down Cherry to Fifth, Fifth to Broad, Broad to 4th, 4th to Spruce and to the park) Two corner stops along the way:
- 20 merkins and 20 Freddy Mercs, on your own
- 20 merkins, 20 Heels to Heaven, on your own.
We arrived at the park for…The Gross.
You probably know this, but a gross refers to a group of 144 items…a dozen dozen or a square dozen, 122
We did 12 of each of the following 12 excercises, mosey around the top part of the park between each one.
- Burpees
- Penguins crunches
- Squats
- Diamond merkins
- Left leg lunge
- Right leg lunge
- Merkins
- WW2 situps
- Jump Squats
- Wide Merkins
- Peter Parkers
- Burpees
Dang, y’all are fast. Let’s mosey and chew some clock here….
Long way out of the park (up and around, back down, up to 4th, back down Cherry to First Pres). Two stops on the way:
- 20 merkins and 20 Freddy Mercs, on your own
- 20 merkins, 20 Heels to Heaven, on your own.
Back to the parking lot for Mary-by-committee and gutting out 30 second of Superman to close it out.
Announcements:
- convergence tomorrow, meet at Brunson 7am.
Prayers:
- Those we met along the way: Babyface and his family, those sleeping in the park, safe travels for those traveling this week.
Flatline is always a tough workout and I hope I kept the tradition up to some degree. Good to meet Turnover who is relatively new to F3 here in Winston-Salem–strong work. Honor to lead, thanks for the keys, PETA.
