The PAX:  Bulldog, Boomerang, Schneider, SGT Schultz, Touch Me Not, Vegemite, Wobegon + Drano and Offsides

7 PAX, along with 2 runners (Drano and Offsides), gathered in the parking lot of Southwest Elementary School on a humid morning ready and eager for what Pony Express might have in store as the scheduled Q.   0520:  No Pony.   0525:  Still no Pony.  At 0528, YHC, as Site Q, started to get nervous.   YHC had not seen a pre-blast from Pony Express the day before (Labor Day) and had failed to follow up to ensure that everything was in order.   At 0530, Pony was nowhere to be found.   What now?   Fortunately, YHC had my Q-Kit Bag in my car, complete with lights and cones.  Making it up as we went along, YHC assumed Q duties, ending up with a workout that was hopefully sufficient for the PAX.

WARMARAMA:   A usual medley of SSHs, ISTs, Arm Swirly Things, Abe Vigodas, Whirly’s with the Clap, and Peter Parkers to get the PAX warm and limber.

THE THANG:  YHC had the PAX mosey to the storage area for blocks, bricks and pavers at the side of the school to each select a paver (which come in various sizes and weights) satisfactory to himself and return with it to the parking lot, bringing along a paver for YHC.   Meanwhile, YHC positioned five lights in a line, positioned approximately 15 yards apart from the next,  to be used both for reference points for the workout and as safety measures to protect us from rampaging school buses.   We proceeded as follows:

PART ONE:

Round 1:  Starting at the first light, perform 10 curls with the paver.  Carrying the paver, lunge walk to the second light, where 10 more curls are performed.  Lunge walk to the third, fourth, and fifth lights, performing 10 curls with the paver at each light.   Turn around at the fifth light and return in the same manner — lunge walking to each light, stopping to perform 10 curls at each one.  Result:  100 curls while lunge walking approximately 120 yards.

Round 2:  Starting at the first light, perform 10 skull crushers with the paver.   Carrying the paver, Toy Soldier walk to the second light, stopping to perform 10 more skull crushers.   Continue onward to the third, fourth and fifth lights via a Toy Soldier walk, stopping to perform 10 skull crushers at each light.   Turn around at the fifth light and return in the same manner.    Result:  100 skull crushers while Toy Soldier Walking approximately 120 yards.

Round 3:  Starting at the first light, perform 10 shoulder presses with the paver.   Carrying the paver, lateral sideways walk (step, heel, step, heel, etc.), performing a squat every time your legs are apart, all the way to the second light, stopping there to perform 10 more shoulder presses.   Continue onward to the third, fourth and fifth lights via a sideways squat walk, stopping to perform 10 shoulder presses at each light.   Turn around at the fifth light and return in the same manner.    Result:  100 shoulder presses and an untold number (beau coup) number of squats with a paver.

Round 4:  Starting at the first light, perform 10 bent over rows with the paver.   Carrying the paver, walk forward, bringing your feet together at the end of each stride.  Each time your feet are together, perform one calf raise holding the paver.  Continue onward to the second, third, fourth and fifth lights in the same manner, stopping to perform 10 bent over rows with the paver at each light.   Turn around at the fifth light and return in the same manner.    Result:  100 shoulder presses and a whole lot of calf raises with a paver.

PART TWO:   Dora with 2 man buddy teams (or in one instance, a 3 man team) .   100 x Carolina Drydocks; 200 x Monkey Humpers; 300 x American Hammers — with the runners starting at the first light and running to the fifth light and returning to switch out with their partner.

MARY:   Conducted democratically, with the PAX selecting and calling out an assortment of Heels to Heaven, WW2 situps, penguin crunches, and mutton crunches.

FINIS!

COT:

  • Prayers for North Davidson Garbage in the aftermath of a devastating fire over the weekend that caused millions of dollars of damage.
  • Prayers for Undertow’s father, Bob, as he begins to undergo chemotherapy.
  • Praises for Schultzy and his bride, who celebrated their 23rd Anniversary on Sunday.
  • Boomerang took us out, giving praise for the blessing of being able to gather together to work out our bodies; praying for Proehl and others struggling with addiction; and praying for Undertow’s father and his medical care providers for a positive outcome.

ADDENDUM:    YHC got in touch with Pony Express later on in the day, after becoming concerned when he did not respond to good natured ribbing on “The Twitters.”  Pony is safe and sound, just a little disoriented schedule-wise from the long Labor Day Weekend.

An honor and pleasure to lead, gentlemen.
