Mayhem and Whistles

PAX: TPS, Turnover, Offsides, Red Eye, Lemming, Zima, Splash, Interference

YHC hasn’t been to Mayhem in, oh, let’s say two years.  So, when the site Q was lining up Q’s for the fall, he must’ve been reaching pretty deep in his Rolodex.  I quickly realized that the best part about travelling to a new workout is that you get to totally recycle a workout….I mean, hang out with guys you don’t normally get to see.  So, we did a Bells and Whistles-style workout, replete with music and a PAX that generally stays together to build camaraderie.

Warmup: SSH, IST, Tempo Merkin, Mountain Climber, Copphead Squat, Hillbilly, Abe Vigoda

Run the long way around to the rockpile.  Grab a medium-sized rock and John Cusack to the grassy area between the rock pile and the parking lot.

The THANG:

Three exercises are called and a song is played.  PAX do 15 reps of each exercise alternating through the exercises until the song is over. After each song is over, we all chased Offsides to the school and back.

The songs were:

  • Paint it Black – Stones
  • Pride (In the Name of Love) – U2
  • Basket Case – Green Day
  • Enter Sandman – Metallica
  • The Rising – Springsteen
  • It was a Good Day – Ice Cube

The exercises were:

  • Largely made up on the fly and since forgotten
  • Although one particular gem was OH claps, Moroccan Night Clubs, and Jack Reachers
  • Some involved a rock and some didn’t
  • The last round counted for Mary: Freddie Merc, Rosalita, H2H

NMM:

You learn a lot of things posting to a new workout.  Today I learned:

  • Offsides did the 9/11 stair-climbing tribute workout at the stadium yesterday morning.  2900 steps in < 45 minutes.  That’s like 200 stories, y’all.
  • Turnover is having a baby in a month.  It’s a girl, and his second child
  • Splash is running the Tuna 200 and is looking for volunteers to join him
  • That the BRR fasthole team from last year (led by Zima) had their F3 record fall to a group from Charlotte this year.  Looks like we’re going to have to get the band back together and re-claim it
  • When TPS isn’t at Bells and Whistles, he isn’t fartsacking.  He alternates between Mayhem and BnW.  I could imagine it’s nice to ‘take it easy’ with the Meadowlark boys from time to time
  • Red Eye still sends out the group text on Tuesday nights to Prospector and Mongoose.  Keep the faith, Red Eye!
  • Lemming is more of a mumblechatter-er than I realized.  He started in around 5:30:05 about sending me back to BnW
  • Zima doesn’t know what “medium-sized rock” means.
  • That there is an ass-load of cars that pours into Meadowlark starting around 6:10 AM.  Because, why wouldn’t there be?

Zima, thanks for the opportunity to Q.  But more importantly, thanks for the invitation to come back to Mayhem.  It’s a great group and a great AO.  Will definitely be back sooner than two years this time.
