7 of the Dash’s finest pulled into the First Pres parking lot on a chilly Tuesday morning. A weak and shallow disclaimer was given, the virtual shovel flag was planted, and we began.
Warm-Up
So that old joints don’t seize up halfway through the workout, a mild warm up was enjoyed.
Imperial Walkers x 3 (overrated)
8-count body builders x 10 (in cadence burpees with a plank jack)
The Thang
PAX moseyed and fellowshipped their way down 3rd Street to the Long Branch Trail, stopping at each light for 10 squats, 10 merkins, and 10 LBC’s. Downhill, very fun.
Once at the Trail, we commenced to perform 11’s. Run—10 burpees—Run—1 Frogger. Repeat with descending/ascending counts (9/2, 8/3…1/10). The mumblechatter seemed to come to a screeching halt once the burpees began. Again, very fun.
PAX did some monkey humpers and LBC’s before finishing the last round together.
Mosey back up 3rd (yea, its’ uphill this time) with some Jack Reachers and hip-slap merkins along the way.
Detour to the amphitheater for some stair circuits. Working your way around the bowl, perform 10 hip-slap merkins at the top and 10 jump squats at the bottom…7 flights? Run back to the beginning and repeato. Then, finish together. Very, very fun.
Head to parking lot. Do some CDDs and something else YHC can’t remember while YHC got the recording device.
Moleskine/Announcements
Turning to a more serious note. Spicoli attended the vigil at the WS synagogue last night. He reminded us that there is a lot of bad stuff going on in our nation right now. Then, the discussion began.
YHC editorial: Sorry, men, but it is just not enough to “denounce” these actions. I am not sure how much risk you are really taking by saying “this man that murdered 11 people because they were Jews is something this wrong.” No kidding. Nope—we have GOT to do more. I am not sure what it looks like, but F3 is about ACTION. We get up in the cold, dark gloom every day and hit the pavement, playgrounds, rock piles, etc. That is action. Now, we have got to figure out how to channel this action to make this world—our world—a better place and get rid of all of this evil.
I hope we can all continue to disagree with each other. That is how you get the best answers—by having civil discussions about the pros/cons of issues, whether that is gun control, immigration, prayer in school, teacher pay, or health care. Why can’t we just have these discussions with a bit of humility, love, and respect?
Yes, we are called to take action. Several PAX today mentioned that we are must show love for each other. And, if we see hatred (or even strong dislike), we MUST step in. That’s what we do—step in. Not just “denounce it.”
I am not sure what else needs to be done, but we are in very choppy waters. So, my charge to you is to: vote, show love, step in, be respectful, have some humility (it ain’t about you), reach across, look for differing opinions, embrace others, have fun.
Sorry for the diatribe. Actually, I am not sorry for it. Let’s go out and show a little F3.
YHC took us out. –VP

Amen. Thanks VP! Yep, being passive is being complicit. There are some real challenges right here in River City (Winston). We can educate ourselves, chat through possible solutions, and see where we can dive in.
Thistle
Strong work all the way around today. Great job leading us physically and challenging us to act on our beliefs. Appreciate your leadership #VanPelt. Honor to be with you men and be held accountable for everything from my character to my exercise form – thanks #Zima.

Once again VP nails it. Thank you.

Well said, VP! Hate to have missed the beatdown and this conversation. My 2.3 has been quite demanding of my time lately… @Spicoli is a #HIM who you can rely on to both support the community and remind the PAX to pay attention to the world around us.
Spicoli
You honor me, VG. I am led by examples such as you in our group. Thank you
Spicoli
Brother Van Pelt brought the heat in the cool morning! I was suckin wind the whole time, but am the better for it. Some days are like that but the push and encouragement from my F3 brethern saw me through.
And yes, be men of action. Thank you, Van Pelt, for your words and your message in this BB. Step in, speak up, and be confident in yourself; if you are confident in yourself, you’ll look for difference of opinion to work toward collaboration. You’ll make yourself vulnerable because the resilience you work on through F3, through the other experiences you have in your life, allow you to persevere. Keep reaching out to other men to get keep this community connected.
Thanks again for your leadership, VP!
