YHC made my first post ever at Flatline this morning, making my Q-Debut there as well [NOTE: YHC is the Site-Q at Parliament, which is where I hang my hat, and lift my cinderblocks, on Tuesday mornings]. Admittedly unfamiliar with the culture of Flatline, I hopefully did not offend any of its usual denizens.
YHC had planned some interesting stuff for this morning, but the increasing rain caused me to momentarily consider casting it aside and spending the entire workout in the dryness of a nearby parking deck. With Zima’s and PETA’s approval, I decided to drive on as planned.
Before starting the workout, each PAX selected two bricks from the trunk of my car to take with them wherever we went. I cautioned the PAX to be sure and choose both a left-handed and a right-handed brick, but several of them were careless and ended up with either 2 left-handed or 2 right-handed bricks. They paid the price for that later on.
WARMARAMA: Mosey from the First Presbyterian parking lot to the bottom of the Amphitheater, where we started with a usual medley of SSH’s, Seal Claps, Overhead Claps, Arm Swirly Things, Whirly’s with the Clap, and standing hamstring stretches.
THE THANG:
LOCATION # 1: The Amphitheatre
PART 1: The Amphitheater has 5 levels for the audience to sit, each a tall step above the other. With bricks held stationary in each hand in the manner listed below, the PAX did 10 left leg step-ups and then 10 right leg step-ups to make it to the next level, repeating with 10 left leg step-ups and then 10 right leg step-ups to the next level while holding bricks stationary as directed.
- LEVEL 1: Arms outward to the side
- LEVEL 2: Arms straight forward
- LEVEL 3: Arms straight up overhead, John Cusack Style
- LEVEL 4: Arms straight back in a tricep extension
- LEVEL 5: Arms in ½ curl position
PART 2: Mini-Dora: While Partner #1 performed the exercise, Partner # 2 ran around the amphitheater and over the catwalk, returning to relieve Partner # 1
- 30 Burpees with bricks in hand
- 50 Squats, bending down low enough to pick the bricks up off of the ground on one rep, and then low enough to set them back down again during the next rep
- 100 LBCs, holding one brick in your hands as you raise your upper body and holding the other brick between your feet
During the phase at Location # 1, the rain greatly increased in intensity. Whatever. If it ain’t raining, it ain’t training!
LOCATION # 2: Mosey to the sheltered area/porch outside the Cycle Bar on the corner of 4th and Marshall Streets
- PARTNER # 1: Perform a Merkin with bricks in your hands, (being able to go that much lower as a result), then rise into the up position. Once in the up position, perform a row with your left arm while holding a brick, followed by a row with your right arm while holding a brick = ONE REPETITION
- Meanwhile, Partner # 2 is performing flutter kicks while pulling laterally on a stretch band looped around a rail post.
- Perform sets of 20, 15 and 10 modified Merkins in this manner, Flapjacking as each Partner completes his set of 20, 15 and 10 modified Merkins. CROWD PLEASER!!!
LOCATION # 3: Mosey with bricks past Mellow Mushroom, El Camino Bakery and Local 27101 restaurant to the building on the corner of 4th and Cherry Streets. Grab some wall.
- Wonderbras with bricks x 20
- BTTW, remaining in position while each PAX counts to 10, proceeding from left to right then back again, dismounting only when the first PAX finished counting to 10 a second time (THIS SUCKED!)
- Wall sits Rockette Style, raising one leg for a few seconds, then putting it down and raising the other. Repeato x 2o reps
LOCATION # 4: Mosey with bricks to the parking deck. Leaving the bricks aside, bear crawl 50+ yards up one level, then perform 10 pull-ups from the I-beams
Return to the parking lot for MARY.
MARY: Conducted democratic style in honor of Election Day, with each PAX calling an exercise.
COT: YHC took us out.
Thanks for the honor and privilege to lead, PETA!!
