Today is the 5th of November, which our friends across the Atlantic celebrate as Guy Fawkes Day. Guy Fawkes was an anarchist who, with a band of others, nearly carried out a plot to assassinate King George I and destroy the English government in the early 1600s. Guy was found safeguarding a store of explosives piled underneath the Parliament building that was set to go off during a meeting of the House of Lords, thus sending England into chaos. I’ve always been captivated by the story, so much so that every year on the 5th of November I watch ‘V for Vendetta’, which is a phenomenal flick that modernizes the story of Guy Fawkes with an eccentric mask-wearing vigilante and an always beautiful Natalie Portman. I almost considered trying to write this backblast entirely in iambic pentameter out of homage to V, the main character. The events became known as the Gunpowder Plot, which spurned a famous poem that begins, “Remember, Remember the 5th of November…” and thus, the theme for today’s beatdown was formed. Try as I might, I couldn’t come up with anything better than all exercises being in increments of 5.

The Thang
Mosey to lower track, take a warm-up lap to survey the status of the gravel. Judging it to be free of pitfalls, we commenced the beatdown. Pax split into two groups, the first running between two benches at opposite ends of the field encircled by the track. At the first bench pax cranked out irkins, and the second, dips, to the tune of 5, 10, 15, 20, 15, 10, 5. While group 1 was working upper body, group two was jogging the track and stopping at each bench to do 10 step ups for each leg. After group 1 finished, flapjack.
Mosey to the parking lot for 4 corners.
Corner 1 – 5 lunges each leg
Corner 2 – 10 mountain climbers
Corner 3 – 15 jump squats
Corner 4 – 20 merkins
At each corner, add the previous exercises so that corner 4 includes all 4. Unload back to corner 1.
Mosey to the shelter for Mary. Popcorn exercises starting at 5 reps, adding 5 for each new exercise, all IC

Palin was keen to remind me that all of our exercises could have been done under the shelter where there are “perfectly fine benches” and “no drizzle.”
Zima was the only pax present to do the cherry pies that he called out. I’m not sure anyone else did more than 10
Speaking of the mary, pax weren’t great at leaving the easier mary exercise for later. Lots of interesting choices made early on.
No other mumblechatter to report, pax were showing off their good manners this morning.

Prayer request for Greenspan’s family, his father was recently found to have lung cancer.
Prayer request for my M, who will have a very routine medical procedure on Thursday but is experiencing a lot of nerves leading up to it
