The Fellowship of the Pax
QIC: Greenspan
Date: 2/20/2019
PAX: Zima, Bevo, Bulldog, Huckleberry
Wash, rinse, repeat. Another Greenspan Q, another damp morning. YHC was up late trying to pull together a workout that had a consistent theme and would live up to the “premier” expectations of the site Q. #Fail. Whether it was the late hour or the hangover from the Sisyphean 800s at Redline earlier Tuesday morning, YHC ended up with essentially a random exercise generator on a notecard. YHC arrived early to inspect the AO conditions, crank up the jams, and dry off the monkey bars for the pax. Zima arrived with his normal Hulk Hogan flag-bearing inspired RIRO at 5:26. YHC proclaimed the disclaimer at 5:29:56 to the Madman of Meadowlark, and we commenced what was shaping up to be two-man show. Bevo, Bulldog, and Huckleberry joined us incrementally over the next 7 minutes.
Warmarama (IC):
- SSHs x 15 (Bevo joins at rep 7)
- Seal Clap x 15
- Overhead Clap x 15 (Bulldog joins at rep 3)
- Whirly’s x 15
- Slow Abe Vigoda x 5
The Thang:.
Mosey 30 yards to the monkey bars and partner up:
- Pax A: 7 Pull-ups
- Pax B: Alternating lunges
Flip flap (Huckleberry joins and gets acclimated to what’s going down) and then repeat for a total of 3 sets each.
Mosey to covered pavilion, pausing to pick up a rock that “you’d be comfortable resting your hand on.” We then used the rocks as stabilizers for one-and-a-half arm merkins.
- 1.5 arm merkins x 10 x both arms OYO (20 total)
- Steps ups x 10 IC
Repeat for a total of 3 sets each.
Remaining under the pavilion, we commenced with some Tabata. Twenty-five seconds on, five seconds off. Exercises were:
- Zebra Kicks
- Imperial Stormkickers
- Merkin Mayhem (regular, wide, Ranger, diamond)
- American Hammer
Repeato.
Seemed like a good time for Cross Country Abs, all IC:
- Cherry Pie Full-extension Death crunches x 10
- Feet on ground crunches x 10
- LBCs x 10
- Legs straight up x 10
At this point, ‘Green Sally Up’ came on the airwaves, and we interrupted our ab workout for three-and-a-half minutes of leg pleasure:
- Squat when song says “down”
- Stand when song says “up”
Next up was partner AMRAP:
- Pax A performs exercise
- Pax B (& C, if applicable) run to the circle in parking lot and return to relieve Pax A
Flip flap. Exercises were:
- Dive bombers
- Dan Taylors (Squat, left-leg lunge, right-leg lunge)
- Box cutters
It seemed like a good time at this point to make use of the hill to nowhere. So, we moseyed up to the top and performed:
- 10 Burpees
Run back to the bottom and perform monkey humpers while waiting on the six.
It was getting late, so we retrieved our rocks from the pavilion and moseyed with them overhead back to their place of origin. Following their disposal, we continued our light jog back to the launch, incorporating a little Indian run for kicks. Upon return, we hit the six to complete the cross-country trip that had earlier been interrupted by Green Sally:
- LBCs x 10
- Feet on ground crunches x 10
- Cherry Pie Full-extension Death crunches x 10
And that’s all we had time for. Total distance covered ~1.4 miles.
COT:
Announcements:
- Zima on Q Saturday at IS. The first 40 pax that post get a free extra 15 minutes from the machine.
Prayer Requests:
- Pax who are sick
YHC took us out with prayers to Jesus thanking Him for giving us one another and asking Him to help us remember that this, F3, should be the easy part of our day with the mutual encouragement we share with one another.
NMM:
Great job by the men who posted this morning. Unlike other recent Qs by YHC, the weather was not as bad as expected. We did not stay cool for long, although YHC attempted to limit the running after Manscape’s aforementioned 800 intervals on Tuesday and hearing word that Cherry Pie might be on Q tomorrow at WIB.
Bulldog got out of his truck before putting it in park and jumped all over the workout. He persevered up the hill to nowhere and still had springy legs on the Indian run back to the launch.
Bevo seemed dazed and confused throughout. YHC is also not sure he actually intended to post and speculates that perhaps he accidentally found himself at Meadowlark this morning. He also took an inordinate amount of time selecting a rock. However, even a semi-conscious Bevo is more than half what is needed for a Greenspan Q. (#Wekidbecausewelove!)
Huckleberry is like air. He floated up the hill seemingly without effort and then levitated while doing his ten burpees. The pax also had the enjoyment of hearing the story about the time Huckleberry put “Green Sally Up” for the duration of the workout. That’s raw.
Inspired by Burlap’s “Ode to Bluto” from an Outhouse workout last week, YHC intended for the ZIMA portion of the workout to be OYO, x 40, as a true tribute to the site Q. That idea was quickly scrapped after YHC was cooked from the 1.5 arm merkins, and we Omahaed for Tabata. YHC had asked Zima to “trust me” prior to launch and felt it would have set a bad precedent for dropping 40 of those four exercises on the pax myself. YHC also skipped AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” on the playlist. Check out the exicon for how that would have worked out for us:
“Q plays “Thunderstruck” by ACDC. PAX complete 1 standard Merkin for every “thunder!” that is heard in the song. Plank during the rest of the song. Awesome way to end a workout and just make sure any juice that’s left is burned away.”
Finally, YHC wants to encourage the pax to conquer the #fartsack. The weather has been terrible, true. As Brother Thistle proclaimed to us several weeks ago, however, trust your brothers who have the Q. No one stays cold for long at these meetings of HIMs, and the fellowship experienced is invaluable. We need one another. This is the easy part of the day. #Apologies!DonePreaching.
Oh, I almost forgot the playlist: Day for the Dead (Zac Brown Band), Fletcher (Blitzen Trapper), Mississippi (Mac Powell), Thunderstruck (AC/DC), T.N.T. (AC/DC), Footloose (Kenny Loggins), Revolution (Kirk Franklin), Green Sally Up (Moby), This is How We Do It (Montell Jordan), Let Me Clear My Throat (DJ Kool), Jet Airliner (Steve Miller), Are You Ready for the Country (Waylon Jennings), Jump Around (House of Pain), Whoomp! There It is (Tag Team), Things That Make You Go Hmmm (C&C Music Factory), Taking Care of Business (B-T Overdrive), Dance, Dance, Dance (Steve Miller)
