Lace Saves The Day @ The Outhouse 6.8.20
Pax: Greenspan, Wobegon, Turnover, Schneider, THE Singing Cowboy, Bevo, Lace, Spamalot, Manscape, Van Gogh, Tarheel, Burns (QIC)
6 for an EC mile and a quarter to get the blood flowing this morning – good to have Schneider and TSC over from the western frontier.
YHC conceived of and performed this beatdown in quarantine induced solitude a few weeks back and could not wait to share it with these pax on this fine morning (high 60s, light breeze, low humidity for NC in the summer). I was excited to lead the workout, too, but only got so far until I had to call in the long reliever from the bullpen to carry us home. More on that below.
Pax gathered on the tennis courts as 0530 approached. YHC gave a brief description of the workout prior to the beginning bell. Disclaimer was disclaimed, core principles were particularized, and YHC led the pax in the warmorama portion of the workout to the tune of four exercises, all x20 IC – SSH, ISTs, WWCs, & MPs. Put your thinking caps on for those last two.
The thang: 4 stations, 4 exercises at each station. Go through the exercises in order at each station 5 times before moving to the next station. Tabata timer set at 20s on, 10s off to equal 10 minutes total at each spot before moving. All pax were instructed to bring a coupon, and none were lacking. Due to social distancing, we split into 4 groups and coupons stayed with their owners the whole time through rotations.

As YHC connected his speaker, began his playlist, and started up the Tabata app it became abundantly clear that something was askew. While working out in the backyard during quarantine, Tabata and Spotify had no issues working together. But, possibly in a fit of jealous rage or due to some unpublicized beef between the two, there was no collaboration happening between my apps this morning. I was flummoxed. Thankfully there was an ER doctor present who is used to being tested by dire situations that play out in front of him. Lace ran to his car and got HIS Tabata timer, which he kept with him and instructed pax when to begin & when to cease exercising. He didn’t expect it when he woke up, but Lace essentially had to Q the Outhouse this morning. Tclaps and many thanks to you, Lace.
Mumble chatter was uttered, including but not limited to the following:
“Why’d you have to put merkins at every station?” -Schneider (really good question)
“I’m okay never doing those again.” -Turnover, after only one set of goblet side lunges
“I figured out the theme of the music – it’s artists using autotune!” -Spam, with scorn
“Lace deserves at least 60% of the credit for this workout.” -me …“Way more than that!” -everyone else
I couldn’t hear most of what else was said due to a selective ear paired with our not-so-close proximity at the stations.
Some announcements – look for details about Schmedfest. Also look for details about the AO challenge coming up. YHC has Q again tomorrow at Parliament – despite a previous declaration made to a select few individuals, it will not be the exact same workout as today’s. It will indeed be different.

YHC wanted to make a point today to mention the official statement given by F3 about the protests following George Floyd’s murder and a subsequent reinvigoration of the Black Lives Matter movement. I feel like the Nation’s statement does a good job highlighting our duty to lead as we live in our separate community spheres. What I feel it lacks and what I also want to also convey to our region and beyond is that as leaders every action we take influences those who look to us as such. Being open to all men and invigorating male community leadership are a great starting point, but the core principles and the mission statement are not where F3’s commitment to leadership ends. We must see the brokenness o our country and seek to be a part of the solution…silence and inaction can send just as powerful a message as words and action. We need to be men of action in a time that calls for it, and we will have plenty of opportunities – both individually and as a group – to act in accordance with what empowers those who are oppressed and cast aside by the structures our society has built. I hope you are willing and able to join me in this cause.
YHC took us out with this in mind, also lifting up Whirly’s better half as she has a surgical procedure tomorrow.
Thanks for the keys, Greenspan, they’re covered in the sweat of 12 HIMs and probably should be cloroxed or the equivlent
