She’s Mighty, Mighty Just Lettin’ It All Hang Out

QIC: Burlap

Date: 02 Sept 2020

PAX: SnakeEyes (WB), FlyBy, High Cotton, Splash, Spamalot, RustBucket (WD), Zima, Burlap (QIC)

YHC was happy to see seven others at #Mayhem this morning, as the promise of nearby Bells N Whistles and something moderately challenging like an Iron Pax Challenge pulled away even the local site Q.  If the numbers had been four or less, YHC would have punted and switched to an old standby (Crazy Eights), but with seven at the start (more later on a late arrival), the Q pressed forward with the following terribleness:

SSH 20 IC

IST 15 IC

Running with Scissors 15 IC

Alternating lunges 15 IC

Windmill 15 IC

Moroccan nightclub 15 IC

Jack Reachers 15 IC

Mosey to other parking lot by bricks for

The BRICK HOUSE

Goal is to collect bricks by being first person to finish the lap. Every lap, only the person who returns to the pile first gets a brick. Once you get a brick, you keep it and exercise and run with it for the rest of the workout.

After each lap, perform the following exercises with number of reps dependent on number of bricks you have. Zero bricks >> 10 reps each. One brick >> 20 reps each. Two bricks >> 30 reps each, and so on. Exercises:

  • Merkins
  • Plankjacks
  • Nolan Ryans (5 each side unless you have one brick and then its 10 each side, and so on)
  • WWII sit ups
  • Squats

Once you have completed these five exercises, run again (with brick if applicable). The first person to finish this lap –whether he has a brick or not – gets a brick. Repeato until 0610 and return all bricks to Q’s car.

COT

  • Zima is hosting an IPC week 1 workout this Friday, Sept 4 at 0530 at Meadowlark Elementary (old Mayhem AO).  Come join or just watch and make fun of him (at your own risk).
  • Splash reminded us to give blood.  If you are eligible, please do so.
  • Prayers for SnakeEyes’ friend in Florida who works daily with the homeless population.
  • Prayers for a patient of Splash’s who is battling blood disease.
  • YHC took us out.

NMM

  • Local site Q, Turnover, did not know what evil YHC had planned and wisely opted to do the IPC instead.
  • After hearing the explanation, there was not a lot of enthusiasm for finishing the first lap in front.  High Cotton stepped up at the end and took the first brick.
  • As designed, the brick slowed High Cotton down such that the rest of the pax passed him.  Zima was out in front and finished the second lap first and got his brick.
  • Splash was nearby and easily won the third brick.
  • SnakeEyes was not far behind and once the first three had bricks, he rose quickly to the front.
  • Meanwhile, Rust Bucket was being wise by limiting his running on new joints, so he grabbed a brick (or two) just to make the exercises harder.
  • Spamalot continued to run the loop and perform the exercises and got in about 2 miles, per his watch.  This is admittedly on the high side for running at a 45 minute bootcamp.
  • FlyBy and YHC were mostly near one another, but he lived up to his name on the 5th lap when I thought I might get the next brick, and he flew by me on the back stretch and bounded up the steps.
  • Zima, Spam and others recalled a similar workout at Calvary (a WIB) lead by Huck that purposefully weighed down the leaders with weights to put them at the rear.  Generally, they seemed not hold antipathy toward the Q but toward Huck.  I can live with that.
  • I think High Cotton even picked up a second brick about 0600.  Oh, he decided to show up about four minutes into the workout — he didn’t miss the disclaimer, as I didn’t give one — and left about 0608.  In accounting, we call that LIFO, and it can help reduce profits in the short-term (handy for tax calculations).
  • Everyone seemed to enjoy the workout and especially the humidity.

Thank you for the opportunity to lead and for the example you guys set every morning.

Peace,

Burlap
