Knollwood + weather + flat route = big numbers
QIC: Burlap
Date: 25 Jan 2021
PAX: BoutTime, BAM, Cheerio, Bluto, HOG, Greenspan, Burns (WB), Mongoose, Zuckerberg, Balco, JuiceBox, Glazer (RIRO), Closer, Mutton, Burlap (WD)
Fifteen men rolled into #RNG with a pleasant 43 degrees and some humidity but no rain. ‘BoutTime let the Q know that he was running only, as he had a very important date with his daughter at a spin class at 0630. Then we set off. By the time we turned off Knollwood onto Biting, we were essentially in small groups of 3 or less — HOG, Burns, and Greenspan; then, Balco, Mongoose, and Zuck; then, JB, Glazer, and ‘BoutTime; then Mutton and YHC with Closer zooming past us to catch the others; then, Bluto, Cheerio, and BAM. I am not sure if Closer or others caught up with other groups or split up or fell back; I just know that I didn’t see anyone closely but Mutton, and there were vague little lights ahead that dimmed with every mile.
There were at least a half-dozen other runners on our route running towards us. Mutton and YHC said, “Hello” to each of them, but I never heard a response. We were running on the left on Arbor — the correct side of the road for pedestrians in the U.S. — and nearly had to push a group of three ladies over who were running at us on their right. They finally nudged toward the center lane so that we didn’t have to run through the leaves in the gutter.
We made it back to the well lit side doors of Knollwood’s sanctuary where we set up for Tabata. We used the traditional 20 seconds on and 10 seconds of rest for eight rounds, but instead of alternating A and B exercises, we did the same exercise for all eight rounds. We started with mountain climbers and nearly wore our shoulders out. Then moved to eight rounds of low flutters. We finished with alternating deep side squats, and ended a minute or two early.
Without a blaring speaker, Pax could only enjoy three quiet songs by R.E.M. (“Orange Crush”), Metallica (can’t recall which one), and Al Green (“Let’s Stay Together”). These were from my Spotify library that I have labeled “Random for Workout”.
BAM was unavailable for the Tabata portion due to other gastro-intestinal commitments, according to Pax close to the situation.
JuiceBox finished the workout with only a small amount of blood spilling from his knees. He took a tumble on Greenwich, I believe, while running fast with Glazer and listening to a Glazer story. Turns out he tripped on some buckled asphalt — the same asphalt that Glazer tripped upon during his run into RNG. It was when JB tumbled forward onto knees, hands, and face that Glazer thought, “maybe I should warn JB about the pavement.”
Lots of the PAX in attendance are leading workouts later this week including Zuck at BNW, Closer at the new jumprope-themed Double Dutch on Thursday (a roaming AO — watch Twitter and Slack), and Burns at Friday’s BBBC from Southwest Elementary, home of the Owls and Parliament.
Prayer requests included two from Mutton — his mother is 91 and is diagnosed with Covid but seems to have little to no symptoms. And his brother-in-law who has had myeloma for nine years has been approved for a clinical trial. Cheerio asked for prayer for his friend, Andy, who is out of the ICU but recovering from heart issues. YHC prayed in thanksgiving and asking for help in putting others first.
Honored to set the route, to lead the Tabata, and to lead the COT. P
Peace,
Burlap

Burns
Great route, extra difficult tabata without alternating exercises. YHC expressed displeasure with the pace that Greenspan & HOG fell into, it was Palin-esque. We were caught by Zuck, Mongoose, & Balco at the last half-mile. Wonderful start to the week, thanks for leading Burlap!
BAM
All issues were resolved and YHC chose wisely to not stick around for the gunning. A lovely route and appreciate Cheerio slowing down for me.
Closer
Backwards hat Burlap is a mean Burlap!
The route was nice and flat. The Gun was a tough!
Awesome to have 15 PAX roaming the streets!
