A Hard and Complicated UA for a smart group of studs (plus the Q)

QIC: Burlap

Date: 07 May 2021

PAX: Undertow, Lamb Chop, Litterbox (WB), Snooki, Cheesesteak, Posthole, Burlap (WB and QIC)

Someone made a mistake and invited me to Q Urban Assault.  I am old and lately out of shape, and I generally run Tractors on Fridays, BUT I love the dudes at UA and the AO is unique.  While considering the AO, somehow I focused on the stairs from 4th ST up to the Long Branch Trail and the bridge over the street.  I also didn’t want to do a traditional routine, so I thought we would try a more complicated grinder than a 3-man grinder:  a 4-man grinder.  I know — creative.

I had also seen a video in recent months of Adrian Peterson crawl bearing up stadium steps.  And I recalled the steps near the waterfall and stage.  This sounded hard so put that first.  It went like this:

Warmorama

SSHs, ISTs, mountain climbers, copperhead squats, Peter Parkers, Jack Reachers (surprisingly hard after Peter Parkers), and Running with Scissors.

Over to set of 15 steps.  Take turns crawl bearing to top.  Then bear crawl next set.  Mosey to 4th St under bridge and moving explanation of the never-before-attempted 4-man grinder.

Stop 1 “B” under bridge do 10 burpees and 10 big boy sit ups and alternate until relieved.

Stop 2 “N” north of bridge do 20 Nolan Ryans (10 each arm) and 20 Nordic Tracks (looks a lot like Running with Scissors but I needed an N exercise for memory).  Alternate until relieved.

Stop 3 “S” south of bridge do 30 squats and 30 SSHs and alternate until relieved.

The S stop folks run to the B stop who run to the N stop and so on, a circular grinder.  We got in two full rounds at each stop.

Mosey north along trail to 5th street for a fifth of VODKA

V — 10 Vee ups in cadence (20)

O — 10 big Os (5 each direction)

D — 15 Derkins OYO

K — 20 Kicks of the Donkey

A — 20 American Hammers IC

Mosey north along trail to 6th street for a game of HOCKEY

H — 10 hand release merkins

O — 15 Overhead Claps

C — 20 CDDs

K — 25 Kicks of the Donkey

E — 30 Elves on a shelf

Y — YOUR F3 Name spelled with feet together, straight legs, all caps.

Mosey back to start for brief Mary.

NMM

  • YHC put the crawl bear stairs first as it was probably the hardest item for me.  I was able to do it, and of course the other studs knocked it out without much trouble.
  • YHC was concerned with only six pax to start.  I wanted 8 for two groups of four for the grinder.  Snooki showed up about two exercises in for a total of seven, and I realized that I could make three pairs plus one for a total of four “men”.  This worked well, as the Q worked alone and the three pairs stayed together for about 12 minutes and got to talk some.
  • It is tough to communicate and have the pax understand lots of complicated exercises, but these guys listened well, got the concept, got the 10-20-30 differences and remembered all six exercises with the help of the B N S letters.
  • VODKA was new and inspired by the Fifth St intersection.  YHC doesn’t drink hard liquor.
  • HOCKEY was an old WIB and I used it Monday at VI.  The winner for long name was Cheesesteak.  Snooki and I had it easy.
  • We need to work on basic geography with Lamb Chop and these city boys.  He didn’t think we were running north.  He noted that the sign said “East 5th Street” so he thought we were running east.  Undertow and YHC were appalled.

COT — YHC took us out with prayers for aging parents, folks with illnesses, and Mothers Day (I think).

Great group of guys.  I was glad to re-connect with several guys and catch up briefly.

Honor to lead.

Peace,

Burlap
