An Uphill Battle for Life at Flatline

This morning YHC decided to educate the PAX on Ella Wheeler Wilcox’ poem “Solitude” as a reflection on the AO name “Flatline.”

The portion of the poem utilized is as follows:

Feast, and your halls are crowded;
Fast, and the world goes by.
Succeed and give, and it helps you live,
But no man can help you die.
There’s room in the halls of pleasure
For a long and lordly train,
But one by one we must all file on
Through the narrow aisles of pain.
Here’s how it went:
  • Mosey to the parking deck and get straight to work as warm-o-rama is not a part of the AO’s tradition.
  • The rules:
    • Bear crawl uphill and stop at every support beam to do 5 burpees.
    • While crawling rehearse two lines of the poem so it can be recited from memory upon reaching the turn.
    • If the section of the poem is not perfectly recited at the top, everyone enjoys 20 additional burpees.
    • This process was repeated until the entire portion above could be recited from memory.
    • By the end we all had done 215 burpees each.
  • For Mary we moseyed back to parking lot for 5 minutes of plank

No announcements and YHC took us out.

The End

  • YHC was impressed by the request for more poetry at the end
  • Some wished for Dr. Seusse and Shel Silverstein.  Maybe next time.
  • It was stated that 215 might be a record for an F3 workout.  If so, let’s break it.  Who’s game?

Grateful to lead these fine men.  Thanks for the opportunity and looking forward to next time!

T-claps for bringing poetry to the workout. But the opposite of T-claps for excessive Burpees. Somehow, I am glad I hit Redline this morning instead.

      A few burpees in excess,
      it might just possibly be.

      For poetry’s full digest
      When experienced ‘must’ see!

      Something deeper, far less known.
Wisdom and truth, souls set free.

      What’s more importantly shown
      Life’s veil falls amidst burpees.
