Greetings Fellow F3 Members,

14 PAX gathered at Woodpeckers VQ at Purgatory on Sept. 18 to begin a warmup that consisted of side-straddle hops, arm rotation thingies, and stretches. An awkward attempt at cadence counting was administered by YHC along with the 5 tenets of an F3 workout. Cliff notes were utilized so as to not falter more than necessary. YHC confessed that for the first several months of workouts that he thought the Q was shouting “supposition” instead of “starting position”.

The PAX then moseyed to the gravel track to learn about their next adventure – the Burpee Catch Me If You Can Indian Run.

A combination of Catch Me If You Can and a traditional Indian Run. The last person drops and does 5 Burpees, while the rest of the Pax mosey in a line. After completing the Burpees, the last guy runs to catch the group, tapping the (new) last Pax on the shoulder, who then stops to begin his 5 Burpees, while the (former) last guy continues on to the front of the line.

YHC was met with awkward stares and squawks of disbelief – a suretell sign that he was on the road to the right approach. The PAX made their way all the way around to their starting point. However, spamalot discovered to his horror that he was missing his keys. PAX graciously offered to retrace their steps and jog the track again in search of the missing item. Keys were discovered as well as a Nerf football that they PAX enjoyed treating as a missile as they made their way to the rock pile.

Upon arriving at their selected destination, the PAX were very impressed by the Q’s use of high dollar luan plywood and pressure treated pine signage for their next workout – the “7 of Diamonds”. You too can have a custom charcuterie board engraved with the workout of your choice if you so choose.

4 stations were setup in a diamond formation. PAX assembled into 4 “evenly” distributed groups. For the first round we completed 7 burpees at each diamond with a mosey (or sprint) in between stations. The PAX quickly used their limited mathematical skills to learn they would be completing 28 burpees in the first cycle around the diamond. Round 2, 14 Imperial Storm Troopers. YHC felt sorry for the troops and reduced the IST to a single count which caused multiple traffic jams because he neglected to tell others of the unexpected change. VQ FAIL. Round 3, 21 Merkins. Round 4, 28 squats.

YHC cut the exercise short in the interest time so that they could participate in the next adventure of misery – “The Caterpillar Crunch”. PAX were seated in a single line formation. Boulders were supplied for every other participant. YHC instructed his followers to do 5 LBCs whether they held a rock or not. After 5 crunches, members passed their rock to their adjacent neighbor in an awkward American Hammer transport style. The last PAX in the line took their rock and ran back to the beginning. No PAX or rocks were harmed to my knowledge.

After we all had a chance to run back to the beginning of the Caterpillar we moseyed our rocks down Slippery Hill to the parking lot near the pool.

Galatians 6:2 tells us to “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ”. PAX were paired up. PAX member 1 carried both his rock and his partner’s rock 50 yards up the road, while PAX member 2 completed the exercise that PAX 1 struggled with the most. Partners swapped “burdens” and complete 3 rounds of burden bearing. In this manner we shared challenges, we carried loads, we became stronger together.

As the top of the hour approached, PAX made the long trek back to the rock pile to lighten their load. We finished the hike to the front of the school and completed the remainder of the “7 of Diamonds” as our cool down.

I don’t care what the others say….you did a great job! Congrats on the VQ! Looking forward to the next one. Outstanding use of screws on the Weinke. Hmmm. That sounded odd.

Probably the first and best reference to a charcuterie board in a Backblast. Well done!
