Famous February Birthdays
QIC: Drama Queen
Date: 02/27/2023
PAX: Schneider, The Singing Cowboy, Seaman, Drama Queen
3 pax (Schneider, TSC and YHC) arrived early for an EC run. Upon our return Seaman had pulled in. Unfortunately for the Q the run must have loosened up the lower regions and it was a wise decision to make a quick trip into the Y and leave the pax to begin the warmup.
After things were taken care of, YHC introed the workout as a celebration of famous birthdays and events of February since being born in the 2nd month of the year is near and dear to YHCs heart.
We immediately learned that one of our warmup exercise’s namesake was born in February – the one and only Abe Vigoda(2/24) who was with us almost 95 years – definite respect.
We finished up with an arm bar drill (Heels to heaven with a twist) for Rhonda Rousey (2/1) and Dry Dock crabs for Ric Flair (2/25)
We then moseyed to hill on backside of Y near turn 3 of the track for the entertainer portion. In honor of Johnny Cash (2/26) Garth Brooks (2/7) and Fats Domino (2/26) we listened to Folsom Prison Blues and Blueberry Hill. Unfortunately Garth is not on Spotify but we honored him anyway with an exercise. We performed 10 Folsom prisoner get ups, 10 Friends in Low Places squats and then a run up Blueberry Hill and repeato until both songs were finished.
On to the Presidential portion. First for George Washington (2/22) we crossed the Delaware with 10 Toy Soldier steps followed by 10 rows in boat position. We traversed about 30 yards from light pole to light pole.
Next came WH Harrison (2/9) – shortest term of any president. 31 dead lifts with rocks for his 31 days in office.
On to the 20th century and Ronald Reagan (2/6) with Mr Gorbachev tear down that wall elephant kicks – 4o for his # in the presidential lineup.
On to the GOAT athlete portion. Down to the Spartan training area where we used the tires to honor Jim Brown (2/17) Not for his football prowess but his iconic scene in The Dirty Dozen. We zigzagged and “dropped grenades” down the German vents and performed 8 hand release merkins at each turn because unfortunately Jim ends up face down. We did a total of 32 so we did honor Jim’s jersey #.
We moseyed over to the baseball field to honor Babe Ruth (2/6) and Hank Aaron (2/5) with 44 Hammerin Hanks (aka American Hammers) and 3 laps around the bases for Babe.
On to the parking lot and the basketball goal to honor Michael Jordan (2/17) with 23 jump shots both sides. And if you said Jordan isn’t the winningest basketball player – that would be Bill Russell (2/12) who won 13 of 15 championships at the highest level of basketball. So we went to the wall for 13 rebound drills.
Running out of time so we rolled two events into one exercise by honoring National Polar Bear Day (today 2/27) and the anniversary of raising the flag on Iwo Jima (2/23) by bear crawling up hill near the flag beside the shelter.
Back to the parking lot for some quick Mary. But wait we had not covered an important president born in Feb. Abe Lincoln (2/12) the only president in the Wrestling HOF of course led us to do Sumo Drills. We finished with some Mary. Can’t remember exactly but we checked it off before time elapsed.

Good EC run with Schneider and TSC. Got some plumbing tips
Thankful there is an open door, understanding Y staff, and close restroom at the Y
After the music for the entertainers the February artists continued – see playlist below. There were no intentional connections but George Harrison played during George Washington and WH Harrison. Several performers did not make the list and several on the list did not get played – sorry to George Thorogood, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Ed Sheeran, Kurt Cobain, Rihanna, et al.
YHC had another athlete to honor but forgot – Floyd Mayweather (2/24) considered by many pound for pound greatest boxer. The exicon has an exercise named for Money – much like Nolan Ryans except punch both over and under planted arm.
Thankful to the pax for putting up with my fascination with all the Feb birthdays. Seaman commented something must be going on in May. #hedidthemath #springisintheair
