It was a cool and damp morning on the plains of Clemmons. There were rumblings leading up to this gathering,
- “Who is this ‘furiner’ invading our space?”
- “We don’t need no big city, city slicker to show us how to exercise.”
- “I bet he don’t even own a gun.”
Were some of the comments that could be heard or merely implied through their comments on the slack and general demeanor. The Q was wise enough to know that innocent sounding comments like:
- What pace y’all running?
- I ain’t comin’, I might rust
Were really masking their true intent.
But, the Q is faithful in his work as a uniter and bridge builder, confident that there is more that unites us than divides us. So, he packed up his trusty Nantan to provide the necessary “coverage” (because everyone likes the Nantan), and headed West.
The small #clowncar from the east arrived early, but already saw the faithful Cowboy warming up his vocal cords and heels. Alas, our favorite horse ridin’ troubadour wasn’t running this morning (Tough guy has a 1/2 marathon to dominate tomorrow!) He was still there to walk and invigorate male community leadership.
Waiting to see if Mike Wallace was gonna post to join YHC and Wobegon on our 5 mile jaunt, turns we only got Andy Rooney commentary asking about running pace. So, we headed out.
When we returned, there was a parking lot full of fine individuals who had traversed various distances at various speeds. Contrary to fears and vicious rumors of bionic jointed pax, no rust was present or forming.
After the COT, YHC and his faithful travelling partner returned to their car, which went unharmed by the locals, and travelled back home. Both were safe in the knowledge that this Village might be filled with Idiots, they are peaceful and friendly.
