like arm swirly things for the legs on pi day
QIC: crash
Date: 3/14/2023
PAX: spicoli, zima, madoff, cherry pie, crash
Preblast for this one was:
“YHC has the Q at flat line tomorrow. Tomorrow we are going for the baseball park at my speed which anyone can keep up with, and we are going to do burpees at regular intervals AMRAP vs counting style.”
Madoff’s arrival to his first flatline reminded me of YHCs first flatline. I posted to flatline to the church parking lot downtown, right next to the church, and as the time approached realized that it couldn’t possibly be the start location. I recalled even listening and hearing voices carry as the workout started but never could pinpoint the source. So, I ended up heading home that day and following up to try to figure out where it really met. Turns out, it’s the middle of another parking lot the church uses. Soon as I figured that out, I added flatline to the center of the parking lot on google maps. This it seems turned out to be the save for this time. Putting workout locations on google maps seems like a pretty good way for people to find them. It’s something we should do for all the AO’s.
That crisis averted, zima, cherry pie, then spicoli showed up and we were off right at 5:30. See the route below. YHC hit the watch to start just a bit late but within a couple of minutes.
The questions from zima started early and often about what day it was, and I kept guessing birthdays, and other things. We did burpees at (almost) all the intersections shown above. No counting, just start and stop when it felt right. At the bridge in the bottom right we went across the bridge and did monkey humpers for the traffic coming in both directions. We stopped by the batting cages and did some nolan ryans along the first base line. We stopped at the wall and did some leg raises along the first base line. We did 7’s or 11’s (now I can’t remember which) at the hill in the middle left. I think it was squats and lbc’s. We kept doing burpees. I used the burpees at the corners to catch up sometimes. Somewhere around home plate or the hill, zima gave up on my guessing and told me it was pi day so we incorporating some 3’s, 14’s, etc into the routine. We did more burpees and running up second street back to the parking lot. In the parking lot there was some time for mary so we started doing exercises following all the digits of pi: 3 of something, 1 of something, 4 of something, 1 of something, 5 of something, 9 of something. Standard mary exercises. At the end I am pretty sure we did ring of fire merkins though I don’t recall what number we started with. It might have been 9.
The format of running and counting allowed for lots of conversation. Among my favorite memories was cherry pie telling me my running pace was like arm swirly things for the legs. Once everyone figured out the routine, though, folks could run ahead to the next intersection and just take their frustrations out by doing burpees. There was also some discussion and some complaining about the repetitiveness of burpees at every intersection. All I’ll say, is the backblast was pretty clear what was going to happen!
YHC will try to do a better job of remembering Pi day next year.
There were announcements and prayers and YHC apologizes yet again for leaving this for two weeks and not having much recollection of the same.
Spicoli: thanks for helping with directions it was easy to get turned around and I needed some help making sure I made the right decision at the left outfield to cross the street and get back going up 2nd street.
While we were doing monkey humpers for both directions of traffic on 421, a highlight of the workout, I think we might have had a honk or two. Maybe I imagined it. YHC threatened not to stop until someone honked. There was also a person in their (20’s)? on a skateboard crossing the bridge at 5:45. Hmm… Good to be in a group. Safety in numbers. I’ll say I’ve never felt unsafe during an F3 workout save when I’m holding a cinder block above my head in the lying down or standing position.
Madoff’s first trip to flatline I’d like to think was a success.
Zima was entertaining and supportive. YHC was extra careful to use proper form for any exercises that involved arm range of motion but I did imitate a tyrannosaurus once or twice and might have made a dinosaur joke.
Cherry pie as always has a motor that won’t quit but the format allowed him to work as hard as he liked (I think). Impressive!
I asked for assistance from everyone how to get into the ballpark, but it appeared unsurmountable. We really need to see if we can get some keys to have WIB or other workouts there.
We finished right on time. Thanks all, definitely a pleasure, this one.
I couldn’t help labeling the above. Here you go. An easy format for flatline that will get you about 2 miles of running / moseying and plenty of work!
