Sweatfest at the High Life

QIC: Burlap

Date: 07 May 2024

PAX: Mutton, Flipper, Blue Steel, Heisenberg, Rudolph, Tarzan, Influencer, BrownBag (WB?), FNG Shasta, and Burlap (QIC and WD)

An early May evening that was moderately warm and full of humidity will prove to be a harbinger of the sweatfests to come this summer, especially at the High Life.  We had one FNG who EHed himself after being in the park last week and seeing the workout.  Not sure if anyone gave him the exact time, but he showed up right on time.  YHC meet a couple of pax for the first time and saw a few others in the light of day for the first time in years.

YHC gave full mission statement, five core principles, and disclaimer — a rarity for me.  Then it went like this:

Warm-up in parking lot

SSH

IST

Mtn Climbers

Windmills

Running with Scissors

Peter Parker; hold it, Parker Peter

To ampitheater and On stage, line edge inside and spread out. Apollo creed right until Q says “halt”.  Apollo creed left back to original spot.

Line up left side of benches.  Lunge walk across stopping to do 10 merkins at break.   Reverse lunge back with same break.

Down to shelter 3.  Teddy Bear Picnic:  Take turns until each pax has bear crawled length of table top. With 6 pax doing alternating step ups (three each side) and the other pax doing people chairs on pillars and rotating.

Uphill and left to shelter 1 for howling monkey and planking Merkin circle.

Up to field. Partner up.   A starts at one end and B the other.   At one end do 25 plankjacks at other end do 20 squats.    Run to each other.  When meet, do 10 partner alternating handslap merkins.  And go to other end for exercises. Repeat to until have done at least two at each end and 40 merkins.

Over to bleachers at backstop.  Partner up.  A does 10 derkins B does SSHs and flapjack; then 9 then 8 down to 1.

Back for Mary.

  • Mutton has Q for High Life next week
  • Lunch bunch on Friday at noon at Bailey Park
  • Prayers for Flipper’s wife with upcoming cardiac surgery, Cheerio’s father, Glazer’s mother, and Ziggy as he grieves his mother’s passing.
  • YHC took us out.

NMM

  • When YHC scouted the AO Sunday at the same time, there was no one using the shelters.  Tuesday night, three of the five shelters that I had planned for had occupants.  We worked around OK.
  • I am sure that future users of Shelter 3 appreciate our bearcrawls across the tables.
  • Rudolph was trying to guess the theme to my music selection and called it “random”.  He was right, as my playlist is labeled “Random for Workout”.  He couldn’t find the tie between Al Green and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
  • Mutton was kind enough to patronize my Q, but I figured out that he was probably scouting for his Q next week, so I don’t allot him any friendship points for showing up!
  • Flipper was precise and showed good form on both the forward and backward lunges on the benches in the amphitheater.  That was tougher than it looked — a balance and core exercise.
  • Blue Steel was an excellet hand-slap merkin partner.
  • Heisenberg breezed through the workout; I am not sure if he sweated or drew a deep breath.
  • It was good to see Tarzan back out after I was a part of his fun and warped naming at Purgatory, and he worked hard throughout.
  • Influencer was another that seemed to sail through the workout, but he didn’t make or post any videos of the proceedings (to my knowledge).
  • I had worked out with BrownBag once or twice before but barely recognized him because, you know, it’s usually dark at 5:30.  He is doing a rotation in the ED.  Thankful that we didn’t need him.
  • Former FNG Kevin is now Shasta.  Shasta is originally from northern Michigan, was a Marine, a welder, and most recently had his camper stolen in the night in the St. Louis area.  He did not have nice things to say about the Show Me state, consequently.  He is in town staying with his girlfriend.  Shasta is apparently a reference to the camper.  For old people, I tried a Rockford Files refenece, but no one but Mutton had seen it.  Anyway, Shasta did great and got his money’s worth on form and speed.
  • Oh, I would be remiss in not reporting that Rudolph became too friendly and excited during Mary when Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” came on, and he started talking about his wedding.  We hope he didn’t get to worked up before he arrived home to see his poor wife….

Thanks for the keys, Frostbite.  I am now FedExing them to Mutton.

An honor to lead and be with you gentlemen.
