No Rain Pivot
QIC: Drama Queen
Date: 01/18/2025
PAX: Bagpipe, Rachel Ray, Rubber Ducky, Blind Date, Ziggy Stardust, Tonka, Subfloor, Drama Queen
YHC checked the forecast and it looked like a cold rainy Saturday morning was forthcoming. All good – Alcatraz has shelter. YHC remembered a previous rainy Q where 3 man grinder devolved into a FUBAR and Rubber Ducky played with a hose in search of more water. Therefore a thorough rain plan was in place with rain themed playlist and all exercises that could be done under shelter. But 0630 came and no precip and radar looked clear til around 8. Another plan was rolled out of the archives and the rain plan was saved for a rainy day … see what I did there.
YHC pulled out the cardboard for the 700 Club – which has nothing to do with Pat Robertson but was originally designed when YHC had a Q on or about the anniversary of Hank Aaron’s 715th HR – breaking Ruth’s record.
YHC arrived a little early to recon the back of the AO and found Rollback, Rubber Ducky, Rachel Ray, and Bagpipe finishing up the Murph. Rollback had to leave for work but the others assured me of the double down.
Others rolled in – some later than others and we began with Warmorama that covered some of the usual standards. We finished off with a DQQ standard – drydock crabs – always a crowd pleaser and a new one for some in attendance. Rubber Ducky will not be competing in breaking in the next Olympics even if he moves to Australia, but Bagpipe showed his skill that YHC later learned earned him 4th place in NC HS wrestling back in the day. #notsurprised
We then moseyed back and selected appropriate blocks and gathered around cardboard #1 with block exercises. 25 or so yds away was cardboard #2 with body weight exercises. To get to 700 total reps pax were instructed to complete 25 OYO reps of exercise 1 then run to cardboard #2 for 25 more. Perform each #1 twice (100 reps total) before moving to #2 and so forth.
Block Exercises:
Swings, Curls, Squats, Dead Lifts, Overhead Press, Bent over rows, Floor to Shelf (each side)
Body Weight Exercises:
Merkins, LBCs, Plank Jacks, Low Dollies, Monkey Humpers, Freddie Mercs, SSHs
Look at that we still have time and we haven’t gotten to Hank’s lifetime total – which YHC still regards as the record – 755. We moseyed around the parking lot stopping at power/light poles for 5 burpees (Waynesville pax calls this Pole Dancing). 11 poles later we’re done.
But wait – there’s more! Still time on the clock. Always like to use the bars when at Alcatraz so we got in a couple of sets of 10 pullups along with a couple of sets of derkins.
Finally back to launch area for Mary. By then though, guess what – it was raining! To the shelter for a few Mary exercises and we’re done.
NMM
Strong work by double downers Rubber Ducky, Bagpipe, and Rachel Ray. RR, who YHC was one of his first pax intros at the Christmas party, has come on strong since December. TClaps
Blind Date is quickly becoming a WeFoCo fixture. Believe YHC posted with him 3 times this week.
Tonka is continuing to post on crutches. Not sure if this is some bet he has lost to Ziggy or if he’s just going the extra mile to prove his beastliness or if he’s just a little crazy
Rubber Ducky was his usual introverted self only speaking when spoken to. If we could only get RD and Palin at the same workout possibly one could get the other out of his shell. Serious T Claps to the Duck for counting all the poles so the math worked out. See that public school education is worth something.
Subfloor – fresh off our Thursday night Happy Hour discussion of Washington State football – continued his lamenting of losing coach and players. However, much like the WSU flagbearers at Game Day he showed up with a fancy non shovel flag for the pavement of Alcatraz.
There seemed to be some expectation for Sumo Drills. Sorry to disappoint. Honestly didn’t think of them when filling up time at the end. #nexttime
YHC changed the playlist from Rain theme to Prison/Jail songs. Had to go with a Spotify curated list since there was short notice. It was mostly old country that YHC enjoyed even if pax didn’t know most of the artists.
COT
no new announcements – reminder about Samaritan Inn service which happens every month and Greenest that happens 1st and 3rd Sat. Watch for future opportunities.
Forgot to mention Beverly’s Birthday Run next Saturday. Join when you can. Check Slack for details.
YHC took us out thanking for group of men and remembering those in WNC, California and others who have suffered loss.
Always an honor
