Coffee with the Runs at Crossnore
QIC: Woodpecker
Date: 2/2/2025
PAX: Doublewide, Bam, Wobegon, DDay, Fivedollar foot long, Turnover, Mater, Greenspan, Frostbite, Juicebox, Woodpecker
YHC will attempt to recap all the spine-tingling details of the morning but is limited to the glow and projection of his headlamp.
Please add more details in the comments if something eventful happened on your venture.
The morning started early. Coffee pot started singing around 0520. 2 more pots followed shortly after.
YHC arrived on site to find a multitude of PAX ready to rumble.
Bam was the first to ruck away with Mater close behind. YHC drew a highly detailed map on his hand for Five Dollar and then the group took off for the hills. Doublewide needed a headlamp so Turnover supplied him with a defective one.
South loop was conquered first. Cattle were either vacant or deathly still as we moseyed through the wandering switchbacks and random puddles. Greenspan remarked of the beauty of downtown when we crossed over the high point of the trail. YHC is thankful for frostbites mention of the south loop reopening on his sad clown run last week. This trail hasn’t been open in about 2 years I think since Juicebox and I ran it when the trail first opened. Could be wrong. Probably am.
YHC was excited to see Bam, Mater, D-day, and Fivedollar coming up the reverse side of the south loop.
The north loop was conquered next….then the trail to the top of the ridge where we turned around at the gate. A run back down the hill and another loop of the North trail. Turnover was a little fussy and wondered why we didn’t take a shortcut. We had to pull him off the barb wire to finish the route. Greenspan grew weary of Turnovers mumbling and decided to run an extra south loop solo.
Upon the route back to the vehicles Juicebox and Doublewide were seen lurking in the bushes. Trying to frighten us perhaps.
Coffee was enjoyed in the Airstream Parking lot. PAX stayed around to converse until the carafe was empty.
-Thankful to Five Dollar for bringing some half and half and honey for those who needed a little something extra.
-D-day shared a photo of a bear shaped coyote footprint.
-Bam and Mater discussed seminary school. BAM recently supplied YHC with prettiest plywood he has ever owned. Mater commented, “that’s some strong coffee” (a compliment in my book).
-Wobegon allegedly did the whole route, went home, showered, returned and was looking especially dapper.
-Doublewide is still wondering why Turnover blessed him with a defective headlamp. Turnover is wondering what he said to make Greenspan run an extra loop.
-Frostbite enjoyed the company of a non-sad clown run of Crossnore. But does not like the hill trail.
-Thankful to Juicebox and allowing us to use the cover of his truck to create a Java coral in the corner of Airstream Coffee parking lot…and that he still continues to journey down from his northern estate.
In conclusion, YHC is grateful to be a part of such a great group guys. F3 found me when I needed it the most.
Looking forward to what Burns has in store for us next time. The keys are hiding somewhere in a mud puddle of the north loop.
