Girl Pop and 3×5
QIC: Burns
Date: 3.5.25
PAX: Starfish, Transcript, Manscape, Brittani (with an 'i'), THE Singing Cowboy, BAM, Bluto, Burns
Glad we didn’t have to work out in a tornado this morning #thirdcoreprinciple. (I hope everyone’s homes & property are ok!)
8 pax ignored the forecast, showed up, and showed out this morning at the Greenbrier Farms Clubby.
There was a pre-ruck of some kind, but I’m unsure of the attendees.
WoR: Abe Vigodas x6ic, Whirlies, Hillibillies, and Michael Phelps all x12ic.
The Thang: Using today’s date as inspiration, I set up 3 stations with 5 exercises at each. 4 of the exercises were, well, you know…exercises. And the fifth was a run of some kind. And continuing the 3×5-ness of the morning, 15 was our rep count all day.
- Station 1: The Launch. Thrusters, Curls, KB Swings, Skull Crushers, Run around the “Small Loop” and end up at…
- Station 2: Tennis Courts. American Hammers, Crunchy Frogs, Low Flutter, Low Dolly, Run a ‘Sideline Suicide/Shuffle’ and then mosey to…
- Station 3: Bottom of Old Pfafftown Rd. Merkins, Bonnie Blairs, Carolina Dry Docks, Electric Chairs, Run up to the first stopsign at Sugar Maple Ct, then back to launch.
Rinse & repeato until time.
All pax got in 3+ circuits, with most finishing at least one station of the fourth. Everyone was getting after it. That hill is big. The Q was subjected to a humbling re:CDD form. It was great meeting Brittani (with an ‘i’) and seeing him crush the beatdown. Manscape & Transcript were both back after some extended absences. Bluto and Cowboy were out front all morning. Starfish is still slowed by his knee but gets after it with 110% effort. BAM had to leave early because he hated the workout. Or the playlist. Or nature was calling. Believe what you want to believe. Speaking of the playlist, it was some of my favorite upbeat girl pop to workout to. In fact, that’s the title of the playlist, linked below.
YHC took us out with a verse and with some prayer. I was getting ready for my boys’ first tee ball experience and looking for my old baseball glove and found the Bible verse I used to inscribe on all of my equipment – Proverbs 6:10-11. “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.” I haven’t reflected on that verse for some time, but I’m reminded how important this message is for the HIM who is a virtuous leader – it’s not about literal sleep but about diligence, determination, and accountability. In anything that we set out to do, it’s important to remain focused on the goal and not to let laziness creep in to disrupt our positive habits. We can quickly fall into “poverty and scarcity” if we choose the path of laziness and distraction. I think this also speaks to the perils of contentment, too. Being content in your station of life is important, but shouldn’t we strive for improvement in all areas of our lives? I’m more than content with my life – I have an amazing family, a beautiful home, and a stable and fulfilling job. But in that contentment I need to work at being a better dad and husband, a stronger supporter of our family goals, and a more influential and dedicated teacher every day. We work from contentment, not for contentment. So to bring it full circle, for our F3 credo – to leave no man behind and leave no man where we found him – encourage one another to be diligent and dedicated to bettering ourselves in all three Fs. By getting up each morning we are avoiding sleep (quite literally) and choosing to get better in our fitness through fellowship and by faith. We won’t see poverty and scarcity coming, but if we sleep and rest on our accomplishments they will come for us nonetheless.
Aye!

BAM
Well would you look at that about the 3×5 set up. Nice! YHC thought it was a festive playlist, a perfectly miserable beatdown, and the only nature calling was the one of earning an income to contribute to the family needs. “Hated” to miss the ending! And thank you for encouraging words and your leadership!
