Pineapples and Rainbows in the Dark
QIC: Toe Tag
Date: 1/21/21
PAX: Starfish, Wobegon, BAM, Closer, Bevo (WB)
Following on the heels of the successful launch of the Nomad Jump Rope Work Out (Double Dutch) we sought to maintain momentum and have another workout. It was decided that we would try it at Leinbach Park (former Outhouse AO) this week. Unfortunately, the originator and Site Q was downrange hopefully protecting a dumpster somewhere. So, since YHC didn’t die last week and figured that it would be difficult to be any worse at the work took the handles for this week. Since this is a Nomad, there is no guarantee that this workout will stick around. So, YHC attempted to do some low level marketing playing off of the limited edition nature of this offering. In the lead up Slack Smack the question of music at the workout came up and YHC said that we would have both kinds. Starfish won with the correct movie GIF the line was from.
YHC arrived at the park a little early and went to the courts to set up the speaker and knock out the burpee penalty for Tigger. He had “Hucked” (HC’ed for a workout when he was already scheduled to Q at another workout) so it was only fair that we at least split the # between us. There was plenty of time before anyone showed up so YHC knocked out 28 burpees while a lone SUV pulled into the lot waited a bit and then left. Pretty sure that the gross display of a complete lack of athleticism scared off the Pax, a would be Pax or an unsuspecting community member. After this, YHC turned on the lights and the true Pax started rolling in.
The Thang – That’s right, no Warmup, just straight to work ala Flatline the plan was to do a Tabata Style workout with 20 seconds on (jumping rope) and 10 seconds of rest in sets of 4 then 1 min between each round with 30-45 seconds of various exercises – Merkins, Squats, Low Flutter, Alternating Lunges, Plank Jacks, WWIIs, Alternating Shoulder Tap, American Hammer, Plank

NMM:
Lots of MC today with the group being able to spread out on the tennis courts and comment on the skills of many and the follies of the Q. You would think that it would be almost impossible to struggle with a 20 second effort, but YHC made skipping rope look complicated.
Bevo and Closer were looking like they were training for the big fight with their fancy rope skills and BAM was not far behind them.
Wobegon displayed some deep musical knowledge and despite his assertions, he was cruising with the rope.
Starfish brought it strong on the music front with his accompaniment of Wilco and was only a little disappointed that we did not really have both types of music this morning.
BAM was able to pick out the Jerry Jeff Walker tune this morning.
Bevo did want more Survivor but that was just the opening teaser song to get us all ready for the work and sorry we didn’t turn out the lights for him to see the Rainbow in the dark.
Several comments were made about the discussions that would happen later in the day when the Ms see the welts from the ropes and some question of need for a way to safely exit a situation.
Some of the Pax seem to really like pineapples.
Announcements:
Bevo is taking over for Flatline as Site Q and has his VQ there next Tuesday
Bevo also mentioned that it has been good for him to get out to some different AOs to see some long lost and new Pax. This led Starfish to say that we should bring back the AO challenge and we also talked about the New 2UQ challenge where you Q at a place you don’t normally attend. Just something for folks to think about and it is good for us to mix things up a bit.
Closer has Double Dutch next week so look for an announcement on location.
Prayer Requests:
Please remember Starfish’s parents as he goes to visit with them and their transition to an assisted living center.
Please remember Closer’s children in their back to school adventures, especially his son who is going to in person kindergarten for the first time.
Please remember everyone out there that is visibly struggling or seeming going along fine with all of the things going on in the world. Reach out to a friend you haven’t heard from in a while and check in. You never know what people are facing and how much a check in can help.
YHC took us out giving thanks for the ability and opportunity to be out with this great group this morning and asked us for help in being the light that we would like to see in the world.
It was an honor and a pleasure to share the time with the group this morning.

BAM
Great time, great company, and “great” to work some different muscles and coordination skills. Yeah, Closer and Bevo were doing all kinds of dance moves, forwards, backwards, flaming ropes. And the silent assassin Wobegon busted out some kinda lasso triple loop move. YHC was just happy to 1) not hurt myself 2) not hurt others. Calves already sore. Great change up!
