Doing the Grammars Real Good
QIC: Turnover
Date: 3.19.21
PAX: Palin , Zima , Razzie (WD) , Cheesesteak , Post Hole , Lambchop , Burns (WB) , Turnover (Q)
It became clear early on Thursday that the weather for today’s beatdown was going to be a concern. YHC received a few separate inquiries on whether or not we would be in the parking deck to stay out of the elements. My answer was: as I am not an animal, I have no intention of keeping us out in the rain. Thus the plan was built around the parking deck for the morning’s activities.
YHC was up late the night prior watching my beloved alma mater Appalachian State compete in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 21 years. After an absolutely abysmal showing in the first half (20 total points, 0-18 on 3pt FGAs) my ‘Neers turned it around and actually overcame a 19 point deficit to lead by 4 before ultimately missing a last second shot to lose by 1. I wanted to incorporate something from the game into the beatdown and the ghastly 20 total points scored in the 1st half seemed like as good a candidate as any.
I stepped out of my car at 0529:45, took stock of who was assembled and at the stroke of 0530 we took off for the parking deck. (@Burns had provided an HC for this beatdown but was nowhere to be found when we launched….however he did end up driving to and parking in the parking deck while we were doing our warmup….@Razzie also was a bit tardy, but eventually found us in the deck still during the warmup. Good work, boys. Honestly, YHC might have peaced out if I showed up a little late and didn’t see anyone).
Warm O Rama
The Usual Suspects, but brief
*I intended to use the “20” from the game at this point, but I forgot/was distracted…but it actually ended up working out better. More on that later.
The THANG
Partner Up
P1 will perform pull ups on the train track until failure
P2 will perform squat jumps until P1 fails
Team total for each pair was 100 pullups
(This took longer than I expected)
Once complete, we did a short mosey to the bottom level of the parking deck as it starts to ascend to the next level. PAX were informed they would perform sets of 10, 20, 30, and 40 reps of given exercises and then would jailbreak to the next level of the parking deck and perform Mtn Climbers for the 6.
The exercises were as follows:
10 – Burpees
20 – Merkins
30 – WW2s
40 – Squats
We performed this routine ascending all the way up to the very last covered landing. We got in 4 sets of those 100 rep circuits.
There were some additional burpees mixed in there in between stations. *See NMM for details
By the time we completed the last circuit at the top level of the deck, we were running short of time, so we headed back to launch, arriving just in time. 0615. Finished.
CoT
We kept it short and sweet as it was STILL raining for CoT.
@Zima has SuperMax/Alcatraz double-down tomorrow
No Prayer Requests
YHC took us out thank Him for the rain and the fellowship.
NMM
As referenced above, the GOATs of MC, @Zima and @Palin, were in attendance and boy-howdy was the MC flowing today.
I think Palin and Zima got in 3 full debates (the topics of which I am not sure) complete with opening arguments, rebuttals, and closing statements during the warmup.
It didn’t take Burns long to make a reference to the App St game the night prior, and it was not well-received by YHC, but it was a good reminder that I had forgotten to include 20 Burpees during the warmup. So once we finished our first round of reps, YHC was happy to inform everyone that they owed 20 additional burpees.
But Burns didn’t stop there. He kept at it with the digs on App St, so again, YHC was obliged to prescribe 20 more burpees at the start of our second round of reps.
Toward the end of our trek to the top of the deck, we began discussing different classifications of words in the English language. Frankly, I don’t even remember who fired off the first “-ing” word or why we were even talking about it, but @Palin very quickly quipped that words ending in “-ing” would be classified as Gerunds. YHC was supremely confident that that was not correct, but I wasn’t sure what WAS correct. I believe my exact contribution was “I don’t know exactly what a gerund is, but I know what it isn’t, and it isn’t that.”
@Palin even suggested I ask Siri on my phone what it was and sure enough, I asked her and the results were…inconclusive (*See: I was too busy sucking wind to read the results)
As soon as we dispersed from the AO this morning, I immediately looked up what a Gerund is and sure enough here is what I found on the Wiki: A gerund (/ˈdʒɛrənd, –ʌnd/[1] abbreviated ger) is any of various nonfinite verb forms in various languages; most often, but not exclusively, one that functions as a noun. In English, it has the properties of both verb and noun, such as being modifiable by an adverb and being able to take a direct object. The term “-ing form” is often used in English to refer to the gerund specifically.
I’m man enough to admit when I’m wrong and will happily take the L on this one. TClaps to Palin for knowing exactly what a gerund was.
Other topics of conversation this morning included property values in Ardmore, whether or not there are established marijuana farmers in the greater Triad area, and who exactly is the oldest.
Very fun group of #HIMs today. It was an honor to lead and an honor to get after with these guys. Thanks for the keys, @Post Hole. They’re in the section of the parking deck that you have to pay to get into.

BAM
Good stuff! And since Kapow will be heading off to Boone in the fall, we’ll be cheering for the ‘Neers soon! Happy to host some football viewing parties in the backyard as well! (assuming they don’t conflict with UGA games)
