Mayhem – Chess and Futbol

Rain rain, go away. I’m sure that’s what was on everyone’s mind this morning.
As Cruiser and I pulled into the Mayhem parking lot we only noticed one other car ( @ 5:20am ).
We both looked at each other and began discussing the rules of an Omaha Coffeeteria. “How few PAX does it have to be to move the “workout” to a drier \ warmer \ interior location?” We sat in the clown car for a bit and kept looking over at the one other lone PAX, gesturing coffee sips. No response. So we all (3) hopped out of our vehicles and that’s when Subfloor brought us back to reality…..”Held outdoors, rain or shine, heat or cold”. He pulled the Core Principle card; DRAT!
Shortly after a couple of other PAX pulled in with only seconds to spare. We made our way to the shelter and the party began.
Warm-o-rama:
Started with a little SSH ( 30…cause, ya know..the day), Windmills (crowd-pleaser), Abe Vagoda, Arm Swirlies F&B, Michael Phelps. Then for good measure and since it wasn’t a monsoon just yet, we ran a lap.
The THANG:
In honor of PonyExpress and ZiggyStardust, I always love to bring a little Trivia\History to the workouts. Today happened to be Magnus Carlsen’s ( Not to be confused with Adam Carlson – Van Gogh, or Magnus Sammuelsson – Strong Man ) birthday. He’s probably the greatest Chess player to ever play the game, so I thought….Chess, Chest. All Chest Beatdown!
The plot was simple. Go grab a rock and complete the following exercises. Some w. rock, some sans rock.
30 Irkins ( On rock )
30 Derkins ( On rock )
30 Wide Merkins
60 Benchpress
30 Diamond Merkins
60 OH Press
30 Curls w.Twist ( This was a fun one; kinda confused everyone )
30 Overhead Squats w. rock ( Again, lots of groans for this one. Skull Crusher Squats. LOVE IT! )
10 Rockees
OUCH! That was fun, but I kept informing the PAX there was a second side to my weinkee. They were bubbling over with anticipation to see, and it also had a little history tied to it.
The second part of the beatdown was a commemoration of the first official International soccer match played in 1872, England v. Scotland. This match was officially a draw ( 0-0 ). Since it’s World Cup, I thought why not. Let’s do some crazy cardio.
This was AMRAP, 30 seconds on, 15 second rest for the remainder of the time. It hurt a LOT! Stupid Q. ( See graphic below – Zoom In.)
