The Millennial – 2000 Beatdown
QIC: Adobe
Date: 02-18-22
PAX: Workbench, Huckleberry, Cruiser, Subfloor, Offsides, dramaqueen, Zima, Madoff, Adobe ( QIC )
Disclaimer: This Backblast will not compare to the likes of Hansel and Crash who have posted two brilliant backblasts so far this year. Please be advised….but, I’ll do my best.
It was a brisk morning in WeFoCo land and YHC was wishing he hadn’t fartsacked so hard this past week. So many lovely spring-like mornings we were blessed with in the gloom, and I chose to take the blue pill. But not today, I have the Q! I was eager to get back out with my fellow PAX and share what I thought could be a pretty nasty beatdown ( Thank You F3 Nola and F3 Nation – Exicon ).
I “missed” a text from Cruiser who informed me of his plan to double down. “Ouch”, I was thinking to myself. He doesn’t know what’s coming. #tclaps to him and the other PAX ( Dr. Toot and Zima ) who were also heading out to Supermax.
Again, eager to get back out, I arrived at Alcatraz a little earlier than usual; first day of school type of excitement coursing through my veins along with a protein shake ( bad call ). I was met by Dr. Toot who had just finished his sets from the Murph. We chatted briefly and then other PAX started to roll in. One PAX ( Madoff ) who’s text I had also missed, literally ran in. Having to drop his car off at Parrish Tire for a quick plug job, he texted me asking if I could pick him up. Then the second text said “nevermind that, it’s only 2.2 miles from Parrish Tire to Alcatraz. I’ll just run.” #BEASTMODE.
The mood was good. Lite stretching and banter were flowing. Once Cruiser and Zima got back from their last mile to finish up the Murph, it was time to get started. Let the games begin.
WARM-O-RAMA:
Mission Statement, check. 5 Core Principles, check.
SSH, Abe Vagoda, Whirly w. Clap, brief Plank, Plank Jacks on the curb. Then, not sure if this has a name or not, I asked the PAX to flip it. Reverse Plank Jack on the curb? ( Russian Plank? ) Oh well, it worked.
We then moseyed back to the bars. Still Warm Up here. PAX were instructed to do 10 pullups OYO. Upon completion, PAX were instructed to do 20 leg tucks OYO.
To keep with the warming effect we then did a lap through the woods. Not sure this was the safest idea as it was still pretty soggy back there, but no PAX were lost or injured. We then moseyed back to the main parking lot for the real fun.
The MAIN EVENT:
All PAX gathered together and were given their marching orders. I give you…… The Millennial ( slightly modified ). Goes a little something like this…
PAX are to team up into pairs, but this is for moral support only.
There are 10 sets \ exercises.
BOTH PAX are to do 100 of each exercise. If you finish before your partner, you pick up their six and help them complete the 100. After both PAX finish their count, you run across the parking lot and back, and start the next set. Simple right? Try to get to 2000 reps, Y2K…Millennium \ Millennial. Something like that.
Exercises were as follows:
1. SSH, 2. Lunges ( 50 per side), 3. Merkins ( OUCH, sorry Murph PAX ), 4. LBC’s, 5. MTN. Climbers, 6. Low Flutters, 7. Jack Reachers, 8. Squats, 9. Plank Jacks, 10…. This was a surprise. I had covered #10 with a label that simply said “Whoops!”. Once we got to #10, Huckleberry was the big winner and got to reveal what was behind the sticker. That’s right, you guessed it… Burpees. Pretty safe to say the groans could be heard inside the church.
All this glorious fun was accompanied by the perfect playlist. I mean, group of dudes, working out in a parking lot in the freezing cold, really cranking out the reps; what else would we listed to? You guessed it, 2000’s pop music. Nothing screams an insane beatdown like Brittany, NSYNC, TLC, Destinys Child, Backstreet Boys and Madonna. Right?
The playlist was awesome! I could tell by all the positive comments from Zima. Huck was belting out the tunes and Offsides was shaking it like a Polaroid picture. And to offer some relief, once we got to set 8 or 9, I changed it up a little bit. I said there was a B-Side of the playlist. Some Blink-182, Sugar Ray and finished it off with some Outkast.
With 3 minutes left, I called it. Time for some Mary. Zima was not happy with the Q for this.
MARY:
Quick Mary…. Penguin crunch, Mutton crunch, Hold Plank while Mrs. Jackson finished….Time.
COT:
Since we didn’t get enough burpees, Zima wanted to finish out his last set. He had 11 left, so I obliged and even did another 10 with him myself. Now time.
Announcements: Blood drive today.
Prayers: Prayers for people outdoors \ homeless. Prayers for their situation and well being.
YHC took us out.
NMM:
This was a rough one. Who let this guy Q? Finishing the workout with 100 Burpees; I am currently rethinking that one. SMH.
All you men crushed it. Well done! Thank you for the opportunity to lead and for the push. I was struggling with the running, as usual.
Zima, I’ll send you a copy of the playlist.
Subfloor, I’ll work on more hard rock selections from the 2000’s if I ever recycle this one.
DQ, I’m glad I got one or two songs on the list for you.
Huck and Offsides, I mean…why can’t boy bands make a comeback. You two together would sell millions of…..well, they don’t make records anymore, so whatever they sell now.
Madoff, sorry I missed the text. I would have picked you up, but BOOM…you are the man. Ran all the way from Clemmons. #Dedication.
Cruiser, you and Zima both…#Respect. Double down today….very impressive. Spartan race is going to be a walk in the park.
Workbench, you crushed it as usual brother. And I did get in Destiny’s Child as requested!
