Flatline Madness for an Elite 8

As YHC drafted a plan for Flatline, there were two primary goals: long distance, and rare destination. Usually YHC opts for burpups in the parking deck, and it was time to mix it up. The baseball stadium was considered, but the PAX just went there last week. Research Parkway? Bailey Park? Hanes Park? Summit? 8th st? Nahhh, it’s all been done before.

YHC realized he hadn’t been down the Strollway at Flatline in a very long time, and research would indicate that it was Drip who last took us there back in August 2020! Yes! This would be our rare (check!) destination… we would go all the way down to the very end, just over 1 mile away (check distance!). YHC knew there were a lot of lights, but wasn’t sure, so a few options were laid out, and the decision was made to wake up earlier and go scout it out in the morning for a final decision.

YHC would arrive just before 0500 and go for an EC mosey to the end of the strollway and back (and then some). During this run, YHC counted light posts: 49! Burpees down and back? Nahh, that’s too boring. 3 burpees at each light on the return? Maybe. On the way back, YHC noticed there were quite a few burnt out lights…. 9 in total! And then an interesting/evil idea popped into YHC’s head: Run down to the bottom, and at each burnt out light, increment the number of burpees to be done at each light! 

 

The Thang

  • Mission Statement and 5 core principles to delay departure, and GO!
    • Stop at strollway entrance and SSH wait for Zima to arrive.
    • Perform 5 burpees due to his tardiness.
  • Mosey to bridge over 421, perform 28 American Hammers.
    • At all bridges, perform 28 American Hammers for recovery. (5 more times total)
  • Mosey Strollway entrance, perform Abe Vigoda x 6.
  • The Strollway
    • Run to the bottom
    • At each light post (49 total), perform 1 burpee.
    • For every light post with a light out (9 total), increment burpees.
    • Whichever PAX is first, must perform hand release burpees; if they stay in the lead, they must perform 2x hand release burpees.
    • Repeato until back to the start of the strollway (49 light posts later).
  • Return to start.

CoT

  • YHC took us out giving thanks for the wonderful weather, thanks for F3, asking we might be there for those who need it.
  • Announcement for the 2023 ROCC5K triple down challenge on May 13th. All PAX who triple down YHC will donate $30 to Crisis Control. PAX who double down get nothing earned, unless another PAX wants to step up with an offer.

NMM

  • Several PAX were upset at what was called, and lots of middle fingers (all in good fun) were flown.
  • 2 1/3 miles total were travelled and somewhere around 200 burpees performed. Just over 160 American Hammers too!
  • YHC was relieved that this played out nearly perfect timing wise: we arrived back at launch at almost exactly 6:15.
  • Just goes to show that arriving early with a loose idea can sometimes come together very well! Though YHC wouldn’t recommend it… still, Google Maps will only show so much detail, and light posts on the Strollway was not one of them (especially not the burned out bulbs).
  • We found Huck’s kryptonight: Double hand release burpees! He was winded, but loving it. He later told YHC he was glad he woke up for it.
  • Chick Flick took several turns rotating for the lead with Huck and YHC. He ended up finishing first. He was very upset to hear the initial instructions, so much so that he only heard to perform a burpee at the burnt out lightbulbs (he was mocked slightly for this).
  • Cheesesteak held strong, and YHC apologizes for the strain these burpees put on the sore tendon in his hand. He commented that this was one of the hardest Flatline’s he’s been to in a long time. (YHC liked that one.) He also may have lost his housekey? But didn’t seem too concerned about it.
  • Drip, well done on getting us down the strollway 2.5 years ago! Thanks for being there today, YHC is HC to your next Q (after missing your Iron Throne yesterday).
  • Zima claimed he couldn’t see anything but one giant light calling to him. Not sure if that’s due to poor eye sight or a near death experience.
  • I don’t think I’ve ever heard workbench complain at a workout, and once again, no complaints today. Hopefully he doesn’t enact much revenge on YHC tomorrow at Mayhem!
  • Bevo, the ever faithful Site Q was very much getting at it this morning. He nearly made YHC take the PAX up on the old Salem bridge with the Moravian stars after joking about doing it… but he kindly did not, otherwise it would have derailed all of our timing!

Bevo, thank you so much for the opportunity to lead the PAX on this crazy idea and adventure. The keys are under one of the burnt out lightbulbs!
