Try Your Best
QIC: Doublewide
Date: 09.12.2024
PAX: Bam, Boomhauer, Boomerang, Burns, Green Acres, Pony Express, Superfly, Wobegon
I was joined in the early morning Gloom by Bam & Wobegon, who welcomed me back with open arms to the TRQ Run Club. On the way back, we had the absolute honor of being joined by Burns, the only member of the 0505 group, and I realized it’s been way too long since I’ve gotten to be around great people like these guys. Struggling with knee/calf/’being 40+’ issues for the past few months, this was the longest run I’ve had since the spring, and I’m hopeful to be out more often!
Just when the upper 50s morning couldn’t get much better, we came back to a parking lot with Green Acres, Boomerang, Pony Express, Superfly, and Boomhauer. The mission was stated, the 5 core principles were shared (in no particular order), and the beatdown began.
WoR IC: SSH, IW, AV, & MP (or, as the 8-year olds on my daughter’s soccer team calls them “back claps”)
Mosey to the Pool Deck, stopping for 10 mountain climbers (each side) along the way, totaling 50.
Pool Deck: 20x each of durkins, merkins, irkins, and dips, with a walk down the stairs in between each ‘-kin’ for 20x squat jumps
Mosey to the Rock Pile, stopping for 10 mountain climbers (each side) along the way, totaling 50 more.
Rock Pile: We gathered at the light and instructions were given. At each of the 4 “corners” of the traffic circle, stop and do 20x each of both called exercises, with lunge walks in between.
#1: Chest press & curls
#2: Overhead press & BOR
Time was called, rocks were stashed (some a little too hastily), and we moseyed (no MC this time) to the start for Mary.
Mary: A variety of exercises were called, most in cadence (though not H2H…whoops), with 10x LBCs in between each exercise. Finish it out with Banana + Superman (idea stolen from Greenspan), and…time!
Announcements:
- Adopt a Street this weekend, check Slack
- Greenspan needs help Monday evening at Samaritan’s Ministry
- Sam and Eggs breakfast is coming up, September 25th, 07:30
- Thanksgiving convergence at Speas will be Q’d by Green Acres, kids/significant others all invited
Prayer Requests:
- Superfly’s dad passed away Tuesday
Naked Man Moleskin:
- As stated above, Bam and Wobegon have graciously included me in messages and runs before TRQ, even though my attendance has been very sporadic as I’ve been dealing with injuries. To feel included, like you’re a part of a group, is incredibly powerful, and I thank you both for that.
- Found out that Wobegon is a “Friend of the Pod” like me
- I was able to grow tomatoes, green peppers, spinach, and romaine so far this year (as well as 3 volunteer pumpkins). All credit to Burns, who came and helped me re-think my garden last year. One day I hope my thumb is as green as his.
- Always great to post with Boomerang, whom my family has known for years, long before I knew him as Boomerang. Now that my dad is on a weight loss kick (and weighs the least he’s weighed this century), you think we’ll ever get him to post?
- Pony Express may or may not have a frozen Thanksgiving turkey from last year’s beatdown that he may or may not bring to this year’s
- Great posting with Boomhauer, who I have met once or twice before
- In the COT, I passed out handmade notes of encouragement that my kids designed. Superfly said it was one of the best gifts he’s gotten from a workout. I told this to my kids and they ABSOLUTELY BEAMED with pride. Thank YOU for encouraging them!
- I also told my girls to draw the strongest person they could, and Millie (my 8 yo) drew a guy one-arm overhead pressing “a hundred million pounds” (her words). I, of course, gave this to Green Acres.
GA, the keys are back in your mighty strong hands.

Green Acres
Loved the workout and the encouragement! Tough enough and well planned and executed. Tell Millie I loved my note and it’s on my fridge so I’ll see it every day and be reminded to Keep it Up! 😄💙
