#DashWIB 10/19/17 – MacMerkin Park (no cake and no rain)
QIC: Fingers
Date: 10/19/17
PAX: Whirly, Light Brigade, Palin, Thistle (WD), Huckleberry, Hedwig (WB), Fingers
Ok, so we did what we said we would. Once again, here’s the grand plan:
The WIB THANG
- Meet in Fleet Feet parking lot (278 Harvey St, Winston-Salem, NC 27103; off Stratford)
- Mosey to Hanestown park (R on Ricks, L on Thurston; corner of Thurston & Stark)
- Start at swings
-
- – x12 Swerkins (#CrowdPleaser)
- (very short mosey to benches at shelter)
- – x12 Dips
- – x12 Derkins
- – x12 Irkins
- – x12 Box Jumps
- – Run lap around park (~.3mi)
- Repeato
- Goal: Complete at least 6 circuits
We did complete 6 circuits (~2.7mi; 72 Swerkins, 72 Dips, 72 Derkins, 72 Irkins, 72 Box Jumps).
@Thistle did more than 6 laps.
@Huckleberry and @Hedwig completed more circuits than 6, but not sure how much…
YHC took us out.
Announcements and NMM
- Ardmore RAH on Sat – 5k & 10k (or both)
- @Thistle’s younger son Duncan deployed Tuesday – keep him in your prayers
- @Huckleberry and @Hedwig jumped out to an early lead; @Thistle was not far behind them
- Learned that the area where we worked out used to be comprised of Hanes company housing to support the Hanes factory that was there, hence the name “Hanestown”;
history lesson courtesy of @Thistle - The park looked much more cheerful in the light of day than it did in the gloom this morning
- Future reference: there are only two swings suitable for Swerkins, a slide, a shelter, and a basketball court; not much else at this park
- @LightBrigade apparently had trouble remembering his name in Name-o-rama, referring to himself as “Ice Brigade”; it was chilly this morning, but not that cold…
- Everybody worked hard this morning; thanks for the keys, @Lysol
Aye!

Dang! I have scouted that park and had planned a potential WIB for the future, but you beat me to it. Taking a rest day but hope you guys enjoy it.

Sorry dude, not trying to steal any thunder. I think it would be more fun in the light of day. Pretty gloomy around there; not much light.
Feel free to plan your future WIB there; it’s actually a good, centrally-located meeting place.

I haven’t been much of a WIBer, historically speaking, but that was a great workout. It was a simple scheme and everyone got to push themselves to their limit. Great plan Fingers. Enjoyed meeting Light Brigade and hanging with him during the workout. He’s in pretty good shape for a person who claims to be out of shape.

Thanks for driving the #WIB bus @Fingers YHC wished he could’ve been in WS for this beatdown! #Hanestown

Great job @Fingers – Great Qing – simple and painful. Fun to go new places. Thanks.
