This morning 14 pious PAX roamed the streets of Winston-Salem, visiting churches and learning more than they wanted to know about the 500th Anniversary of the start of the Protestant Reformation…
Ye Olde THANG
- Run to Our Lady of Fatima Chapel on Cherry Street. The reformation is considered to have “officially” started when Martin Luther nailed his “95 Theses” to the door of the castle church of Wittenburg. To commemorate this event we did 95 SSH + 5 Merkins.
- Run to Augsburg Lutheran on 5th Street. The reformation “officially ended” with the end of the 30 Years War in 1648.To commemorate this we did 95 squats + 5 Merkins.
- Run to St Paul’s Episcopal on Summit Street. The English “Reformation” was more of a schism than a reformation when Henry VIII broke with Rome over the subject of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon.Henry VIII had 6 wives. To commemorate this we did 95 OHC + 5 Merkins.
- Run to Centenary Methodist on 5th Street. The Methodist sect started with John Wesley and really had nothing to do with the Reformation, so we did 95 Monkey Humpers + 5 Merkins.
- Run to 1st Baptist Church on 5th Street. The Anabaptists were one of the splinter groups that came out of the Reformation, but they really had nothing to do with Baptists, so we did 95 LBC + 5 Merkins. And with that, we did 500 reps for 500 years of the Reformation.
- Run to Calvary Moravian> on Poplar Street.YHC did not really know any history of the Moravians, and since we were done with the “95 Theses” theme, we did:
- x25 Merkins
- x10 Lunges (each leg)
- x31 Plank Jax
- x15 Pickle Pounders
- x17 Dead Lifts
- x25 Merkins
- Run back to the parking lot at 1st Presbyterian Church on 2nd Street & Cherry.John Calvin and Prebyterianism were major players in the Reformation. So we did 25 Merkins to complete the day’s #Benjamins.
Mary
There were 2 famous women named Mary who lived during the Reformation – Mary Queen of Scots, and Mary I of England (a.k.a. “Bloody Mary”).
- x17 IC Low Flutter
- x17 IC Rosalitas
- x17 IC Low Dolly
- x17 IC Heels To Heaven
- x17 LBC
YHC took us out.
Announcements & NMM
- Beer Run 11/19 – See @Zima for location details (3:00pm)
- Mega in GSO 10/28 – start 7:00am; there will be clown cars
- @SwissMiss birthday is any day now
- Lots of Mumble Chatter today. @Zima and @BAM are the undisputed kings of MC (except for maybe @Mongoose)
- YHC’s math skills were called into question, but (95 reps + 5 merkins) x5 does = 500 reps
- We covered about 2.3mi today
- YHC was making things up by the time we got to Calvary Moravian as I though the 95 reps and running would take longer. Still, 10-31-15-17 (10/31/1517) reps was pretty good for an on-the-fly-themed routine. #OldButStillSharp
- Happy to see some of our newest PAX @LightBrigade, @Quimby, and @DarkRoast out today.
- A hard-working group of PAX this morning; thanks @ToeTag for the keys!
