All Saints Day is a time to remember the passing of the saints during the past year. The death of a Bill Bloxham on Monday, a homeless man by choice, made me think about life and death. As many things do, it reminded me of the brevity of life and the impact we can have on others if we have eyes to see the needs around us. I am guilty of being tunnel-visioned and not seeing beyond myself often enough. Bill was 60 years old and had been beaten by a group of young men under the bridge going from Hanes Park to Brunson School. He sustained major injuries, but had recovered enough to live back out on the street. He passed away in the Hardee’s on Coverdale. I would see Bill around town and hope I offered him a greeting or a smile. Rust Bucket was in a book club with Bill and told us how unique and intelligent he was. So Conspiracy was a reminder to open our eyes to the needs of the world around us – spouses, kids, family, work… – and show His love to others.
However, instead of beating up myself too much, I decided to take it out on the post-Halloween anti-fartsackers. It went like this:
Warm-a-rama:
Mosey out to the track for a warm up lap and then the usual SSH, IST, Running w/ Scissors, Abe Vigoda (?) and Arm Circles on the “patio”. All done with masterful cadence I humbly add.
The Thang:
Moseyed to the Intimidator for a modified Dora. Idea was to step it up a bit. In partners we did a Dora 200/300/500 – merkins, LBCs and squats – running to first intersection and back. We got in plenty of hills this morning. After each set, we would plank, Al Gore… for the 6 until the next set. Successfully quelled most MC – although Glazer is irrepressible. We then moseyed around the park till navigating in the dark behind Wiley back to the track for 25 dips and 25 irkins.
The PAX are tough – Hazer and Rust Bucket each kept up as they recovered from injuries by running on one leg. It is great to have Hazer around. Lite Brite does not have tachophobia. Breaker and Razzie run fast while not looking like it takes any effort – I hate those types. I don’t really listen to Glazer, but his MC makes me smile. Juice Box (Happy Birthday still) and Chisel just got it done.
COT – Remember Beer Run on 11/19 and family of Bill Bloxham.
Honor to lead – always challenged by these men.
Glazer – I threw the keys in a storm drain on the Intimidator.
