“The Hills are alive…”, barely

QIC: Thistle

Date: 3/29/2018

PAX: Root Canal (WD, Jr.), Mutton, Van Pelt, Litterbox (WB), Roosevelt, Zima, Breaker and Thistle (WD)

The pressure was on – as YHC is the Site Q and the elder statesman of this esteemed group.  I felt the heat to keep the young bucks in line and limit the MC as much as possible, except for Zima (definitely not refreshing MC from him, but very familiar).  So, I thought a little hill work was in order to keep everyone from getting bored.  First issue was meeting at a women’s clothing store, Rebecca & Co.  No clothes were purchased, but Mutton and Roosevelt were coveting a Duke blue Diane von Furstenberg High Neck Halter Silk Jumpsuit, so a return visit was planned for Saturday, since they are free during the Final Four.  After the normal warm-a-rama of SSH, Abe Vigodas, Whirlies and IST – the Q did have a slight cadence lapse, but no one noticed or said anything — we moseyed to the base of Buena Vista and Reynolda.

The Thang was simple, repetitive and became unpleasant.

Starting at the base of Buena Vista there are pavement markers every 100 meters, up to 800 meters.  The plan was for us to run to the first marker at 100 meters, do two exercises (one was a merkin derivative and the second a core burner) each x 20, and return to the start.  We then worked our way up to the 200 meter mark, then 300… up to 800.  Each uphill we pushed it and “recovered” on the downhill.  Our exercises were to be done with our heads downhill of our feet to make the exercises legal.  Our exercises were:

100 – Regular Merkin and LBC

200 – Wide Merkin and Mutton Crunch (Right side)

300 – Ranger Merkin and Mutton Crunch (Left side)

400 – Diamond Merkin and Heels to Heaven

500 – Hand Release Merkin and Low Flutter

600 – Makhtar N’Diaye and Penguin Crunch

700 – Shoulder Tap and Freddy Mercury

800 – Merkin and Rosalita

Litterbox and Zima led the way.  Although Litterbox was in front at the end (he was still impishly chipper and annoyingly peppy), it may have been because Zima did a double Murph before WIB.  Mutton had Q’d a killer Conspiracy yesterday but was still pushing it with the everyone’s favorite “Ah Shucks” dentist, Root Canal (we aren’t buying it anymore).  Breaker ran in to WIB and after effortlessly cruising up and down the BV hill, mentioned he is struggling with plantar fasciitis – really, “You serious Clark?”  And Van Pelt is a beast and seemed to get stronger the more hills we did – strong work.

COT consisted of us thanking the Lord we were done and for Holy Week.  Litterbox took us out with a strong prayer – he has done this before.

It was an honor to be with you men.

Keys have been thrown in the storm drain.

There aren’t many reasons to be thankful to wake up in Lansing, Michigan, but having a good reason not to post to this misery would be up there! Ugh. Well done.

I knew this sounded tough when you mentioned it on Tuesday… I heard this was one of the most difficult workouts ever attended from some of the PAX who attended. I’m glad I opted out so I’ll be able to function at the HopSwap tomorrow !
