Charity Work at Redline

QIC: BAM

Pax: Manscape (WB), Van Pelt, Hit Man, Sac(WB), Suede(WB), Burlap, Mr. Hand, Lysol, some guy named Butter (must be travelling pax), Total Recall, Valdez, Rustbucket, BAM (QIC)

As the site Q was forced to ask YHC to Q #Redline to fulfill all corporate obligations, YHC got to work creating a beatdown that:

  1. Had the semblance of an appropriate workout
  2. Would allow YHC to not get lapped too many times
  3. Wouldn’t force pax who posted to go get a real workout in after this one. (except Mr. Hand, he got his usual 63 miles in before Redline)

As YHC hopped out of the car, some usual suspects were already gathered.  But there was a particular flowing head of hair that jumped out to the Q.  It was probably looking extra special due to the beaming light coming off the dome of Van Pelt, but it was none other than Butter!  He heard YHC was Q’ing a Redline so thought that was the first sign of the apocalypse, and he needed to post.

Before we launched, the former Nantan also appeared, so the Q got a little nervous to have that much “history” looking over YHC’s shoulders sitting in judgment.

So, the pax decided to get the legs warmed by taking a stroll around the park.  Burlap chirped something about “Oh, we’re running all the way around the park?” The Q indulged this frontal assault of authority with his usual grace by replying, “How else are we going to get loose before we do sprints?”

Undaunted, the elderly frugal one retorted, “I didn’t know we were doing sprints either!”  Let’s pause for a moment and process what are some options to fulfill the stated goal of Redline and the Q’s “abilities”:

  • Long sustained running: NOT the focus of Redline and NOT in YHC’s wheelhouse
  • Hill work: Appropriate for Redline but NOT in YHC’s wheelhouse (YHC is a downhill specialist)
  • Longer distance speed work (anything over 400 m): Great for Redline but NOT in YHC’s wheelhouse
  • Sprints: Gotta figure out a way to fit it into Redline cause it’s the only thing YHC can even remotely do.

So, after our lap around the park, pax headed to the track for some sprint-y warmups.

The Thang

  • Based on my correspondence with a nice Saudi Prince, this workout is promised to regrow hair and increase our bank account.
  • :30 seconds – all you got, followed by 3 minutes of recovery
    • repeat-o x 6

The Q was encouraged by the travelling pax Butter who was complimentary about the :30 seconds getting longer and the recovery getting shorter.  YHC took that in part that he was serious and in part that he’s a nice old codger.  But when Sac lapped the Q and shared, “This workout was actually more painful than I thought it would be” the Q knew the Saudi Prince was correct and giving him my SS# and bank account #’s was worth it.

Pax then left the track for some cool down jogging, stretching, and a little Mary.

NMM

  • Van Pelt was a little saucy before the workout started.  Something about being sore, old, and getting beat up by his M.
  • Hit Man said he saw Greenspan at the pool yesterday and noted he wouldn’t be posting.  YHC took that to mean Greenspan was hitting the Labor Day sauce a little too hard, but evidently he was showing off how to do a burpee to a bunch of interested college co-eds and re-strained his hammy.
  • 30 year age span between WB and WD for those keeping score at home.
  • TR has a new job and if you ask him about it, you’ll learn about the 3 tiers of the auto industry among other factoids.
  • Velvet didn’t post cause he was sleeping.  Evidently ran 22 miles barefoot yesterday on broken glass. At least that’s what Suede said.
  • Always “fun” to Q Redline, this great little beatdown Toto created.

    As I was telling a friend, this workout wasn’t too bad except for the sprinting and the recovery.

    :30 seconds of action followed by lengthy recovery…sounds about right! Enjoyed playing Redline this am! Always fun to see the elegant one aka Butter!
